Backwards Compatibility with TI2013

Thread needs solution

Will TI2017 allow backups created in TI2013 to be recovered. If not are my old TI2013 backups (saved for archive purposes) useless?

No, they are not compatible.  Please see the KB here:

1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions

However, no, they are not useless.  You can still restore them with your 2013 bootable offline recovery media. You can always get an .iso of it from your account and burn it to disc if 2013 is no longer insalled.

* (!) Backups can only be restored. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive.

(!) Acronis does not guarantee forward compatibility. Backups created with a newer build/version of the product may not be supported by older builds/versions. For example, restoring a backup created with Acronis True Image Build 8163 may fail with Acronis True Image Build 8076, or restoring a backup created with Acronis True Image Home 2011 may fail with Acronis True Image Home 2010.

(!) Acronis guarantees backup compatibility for different Acronis backup products within the same version. E.g. Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Linux Server will work with backups created by Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for PC.

(!) Acronis Snap Deploy works only with images of the whole hard disk.

(!) Backups created with Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server are not compatible with Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for SQL (Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 for MS SQL Server).

Boy!  I'm having trouble with the wording regarding "forward compatability".  I assume it means that there is no guarantee that a backup created by some level of software can be restored using an earlier level of the software.  Yes?

Yes, that's correct, no guarantee.  However, generally speaking, so far, I've had pretty good luck using recent versions with older backups and the recovery media.  My backups usually don't date past a year or 2 though.  Keep older versions of recovery media - just in case.

Fortunately, if you need to do so, recovery media for older versions can be downloaded from your Acronis Account. In my account they go back as far as ATI Home 2010.
