Bare metal restore from backup on remote computer over local network

Thread needs solution

I have been doing full disk backup of computer A to drive G: of Computer B.

Computer A, B, C and D are all in a home group.  All are connected to the same switch.   All have 1 GB connections through the switch.  Security settings are such that I can see everything on all 4 computers from any one of them.  Login in one gives me access to all.  No problem encounter in browsing the network and system from File Explorer.  All machines Windows 10 with latest patches.

Attempting to a full restore of Drive C: on computer A after a hard drive failure.   I have CD that I prepared on one of the other machines by going to the Acronis site and downloading and burning a recovery disk.  That disk gives options for Universal restore,  Acronis, and Acronis 64 bit.

I have gotten used to the very slow boot of this software but it does come up.   I select restore disk.  Then it looks like I have to browse to where backup are.   There is no network or home group option.  I find computers near me.  It will not find any of the machines on the network.   If I type in the computer name  \\B  it will then ask me to login.  The login's always fail.

What is going on??

Herb, welcome to these User Forums.

Please see KB 57992: Acronis True Image: NAS Is Not Detected which may offer some suggestions on how to see your ATI backup image on your computer on the local network.

Note: when accessing your share on the remote computer you will need to specify the full path to the share for your credentials to work correctly, i.e. //B/MySharedDrive
