Beginning to lose confidence...

Thread needs solution

Home made computer. Windows 10 anniv edition. 16GB mem, Lots of space. Drive C Samsung 250GB SSD. Intel i7 quad core and using ATI 2017 latest build.

I need help. I backup nightly from drive C to Drive F. The options I have set for the backup are a complete backup and validation after image is created and I save the options. After I click the button for bacup to begin I have the program (checked box) turn off my computer. Then i leave my study.

My question is what happens if the image doesn't validate? Will the computer not turn off - or when I turn it on the next morning will there be a message from ATI stating last image didn't validate?

As I have not doen this, I cannot be completely sure what happens. Usually if there is a problem with a backup when you open up Acronis there will be bright red symbol against the task indicating an error occured. If you want to independently check that all is OK, go into Windows Explorer (or your preferred file manager) right click on the backup file, selcted Acronis than Verify.

Not sure thas answers your question but it is the best I can do.

My reason for the question - I have several programs and a couple of old games that worked beautifully in Windows-7. Didn't want to dual boot so I installed Win-7. When I got Win-7 to where I wanted I wanted to go back to Win-10. Made an image of Win-7 and then used my restore disk to load back my Win-10. When it finished coping the image I received the awful "Operation Failed."  Glad no one was around to hear what I said. I then decided I must have goofed so I decided to try and reinstall my Win-10 image again. Again I received "Operation Failed."  I started thinking and ... for the hell of it I decided to try and reinstall my image made 2 days before. Whet in like a charm.

Since I had checked the verify button I never dreamed to verify yesterdays image - since the program is supposed to do that. I can only surmise that there was something wrong with yesterdays image -> hence the image restore from 2 days ago.

Jim, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below and use this to take a look at the Service log files created for when you made your backups of Win 10 - these may give more information of any issues that arose either during the backup or the associated validation.

I personally do no do backups with validation and have not had any problems - it is easy enough to validate the backup after the event using either the right-click menu in Explorer (True Image > Mount or Validate), or from the main GUI using the drop down menu behind the (V) icon.  Alternatively, you can just try exploring the image file and copying some files or folders to a temp location which will also give you an idea of the integrity of the backup image.

I did encounter a recent issue when restoring one of my Windows 10 backups using the ATIH 2017 Rescue Media (Linux) where the 64-bit program gave me similar 'Operation Failed' errors, but switching to the 32-bit program worked first time of asking...!!!??
