Black screen after selecting Acronis True Image on bootable USB

Thread needs solution

Created USB bootable media.

Boots from the USB.  Starts the UEFI loader.

I select Acronis True Image.

After selecting Arconis True Image I get nothing but a black screen.  Keyboard is unresponsive.  Any ideas?

Nick, welcome to these user forums.

Please can you provide more details of the computer that you are trying to boot from the Acronis Rescue Media on your USB stick.   Also what size of USB stick are you using?

I assume that you are creating the standard, Linux based, Rescue Media on your USB stick - if you have very recent hardware, this Linux media may not have all the device support needed.  In which case, you should create the alternative Windows PE version of the Rescue Media - this in turn requires the installation of the Windows ADK to provide the PE environment and files needed for the media - it is recommended to install the Windows 10 ADK which will work fine for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 systems.

Please see sticky post: 127281: MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER for a script produced by the MVP Community that makes creating Windows PE Rescue Media and adding any additional device drivers etc a whole lot simpler.

Note: ATIH 2017 will prompt you to download and install the current Windows ADK when you select to make the WinPE Rescue Media if you do not have it already installed.  The ADK can be upto a 5GB download but you only need to install 2 specific components.  See screen shot below.

Agree with Steve - give the WinPE version a test as I'm 99.9% certain it will boot just fine for you.

For what it's worth, not sure of your board or settings.  However. my Gigatbye Gaming 3 z170x got a recent bios upgrade and now allows me to select 1024Mb to reserve for the embedded graphics (which is all I use - I don't have a video card... ironic I know, i have a gaming board, but don't game).  Well, turns out that the Linux recovery does not like that one bit.  I have to keep it at 512Mb and then I can see my recovery media in Linux.  Ultimately, now that I'm using Windows PE for my recovery media (built with our MVP tool), I like it waaaaay better and it has been rock solid on all of the systems I've tested it with.

The one area that the Linux media still gets props (from me), is that it's both 32-bit and 64-bit UEFI capable.  The WinPE media is architecture dependent when booting in UEFI mode.  I don't have any 32-bit only limited bios systems, so not an issue for me.  And if I did, I'd just build one WinPE version for my 32-bit machines and another one for my 64-bit machines.

Nick, glad for the feedback, glad to hear the WinPE worked for you.

Excellent!  Any chance you had a chance to test out the WinPE creation with our MVP tool?  If not, try out the "avanced" option (links below) and see what you think and let us know.  I will be releasing an updated 7.3 version shortly.
