Boot Media not listing System Drive in "Disks & Partitions" for Disk Backups only for Restores
True Image ver 2017 Build 8058 Backup/Disks & Partitions doesn't list "System Drive"
Restore Lists "System Drive" (once I have chosen a "System Image" previously made from within Windows 11)
I bought this program specifically to backup "System Images" created from bootable media.
Please advise,
JP

This looks to be a duplicate of topic: Won't create 1st system image backup on new HP Envy Win 11 Home Desktop comp

It is likely that this new PC is using the Intel VMD RST controller and drivers for disk access and these need to be included with Acronis rescue media created using Windows PE for the system drive to be detected.
Injecting the Intel VMD RST drivers is a complex issue in its own right and not resolved even with the latest Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office version of rescue media without manual intervention by the user, so definitely not understood by ATI 2017 rescue media that is 6 years older than the technology involved.
See forum topic here for a detailed discussion on this issue with Intel VMD

Thank you for responding.
Account says "up to date" (it's build 8058)
Brand new computer, I haven't created any user accounts yet so I'm believe I'm an administrator account.
Backup from within Windows works perfectly, the problem presents itself when I try to make a system image from the "Bootable Rescue Media" System Drive C:" isn't on the list of drives (only my external SSD backup drive is listed).
However if I check Restore, then the "System Drive C:" shows up so it does see the system in that case.
There is only one internal drive, the system SSD drive. 1TB M.2 2280 SN530 PCIe Gen3x4 value

As @Steve Smith says in his recent post, the Intel VMD RST driver is probably needed for Acronis to see the M.2 drive.

Hi,
Thank you for your response.
How can the "Bootable Recovery Media" list my Windows "C" drive as a destination for a system recovery and NOT list the SAME drive as source for a "system image backup"?And...
Since it can see the my Windows "C" drive albiet as a destination for a system recovery, that in itself seems to make a mute point of injecting special drivers into a custom bootable media., Which is a rabbit hole really don't want to climb down.
Thoughts?
And thanks in advance,
Andy

Andrew, I cannot see any answer from you as to what type of rescue media is being used here?
Also what drivers are being used by Windows for your internal SSD drive?

Steve,
Thank you for responding.
PNY Attache 4GB
This is my system "C" drive
1TB M.2 2280 SN530 PCIe Gen3x4 value (the kind that looks like a memory stick)
I looked at search/system information/system summary/software environment/system drivers but I couldn't tell which one was for my "C" drive
Thoughts?

Andrew, sorry to push this question but how did you create the rescue media being used on your PNY Attache 4GB stick? Is this Linux based media or have you installed the Windows ADK & PE Kits to create Windows PE media?
To find the disk drivers, open the Control Panel, Device Manager, Disk drives, select the SSD then open the Properties > Driver details as shown below from my system.

Thanks for responding and your patience.
This is so embarressing Believe it or not I'm not a tech illiterate before I retired 17 years ago I always built my own computers AND MADE THEM BUILT PROOF. But since then I've been using Google book/box no muss no fuss no maintenance I just use it. Now just because "Sons of the Forrest" caught my eye and I needed a Windows computer to play it I've fallen into the Windows "worm hole" again!! Trying to get this program to work reminds of when in order to attach a device to a computer you had to figure out which IRQ & Interrupt was available! I started out with MS DOS 2.11 for pete's sake...
1) I was given 2 choices "Acronis bootable rescue media" OR "Win PE based media with Acronis Plug In"
For Advanced Users
Doesn't say anything about Linux, ADK PE kits
I did choice # 1 "Acronis bootable rescue media"
I went to the Microsoft store and downloaded a screen capture program (the worm hole gets deeper)
2) I followed your instructions, did a screen capture, tried to upload the png file and got the error message
"The file could not be uploaded." tried again same results.
I tried copy and pasting line by line and got "The file could not be uploaded."
So, luckily our directories match and 4 out of 5 drivers match (letter for letter)
You have 5. I have 4. The one I don't have is hpdskflt.sys (hope I read those tiny letters right)
Should I have chosen choice 2 "Acronis bootable rescue media" For Advanced Users?
Stupid question time, if I "bit the bullet" and bought "Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office" would all these issues go away, allowing me to (1) make UNencrypted "system image backups" locally to an external SSD drive from (2) "bootable media" created EASILY from within the product? (the thought of having to pay $40/yr instead of $40 once as a retiree makes me crazy mad)
Your thoughts (and thanks again),
Andrew

Ok, choice 1 = Acronis Linux based bootable rescue media which brings with it a number of limitations, especially as NVMe M.2 SSD (PCIe card drives) were not around back in 2016/7.
KB 46250: Acronis Linux-based Bootable Media: Troubleshooting USB HID Devices Detection Issues
KB 45330: Acronis Bootable Media Does Not Detect HDD, RAID or NIC

2) I followed your instructions, did a screen capture, tried to upload the png file and got the error message

The File > Upload option in the forum is not working / hasn't worked for some months and Acronis are being extremely slow in resolving whatever the issue is for this!
However, there is an alternative option for sharing screen shots which is to use the Imce File manager icon (to the left of YouTube and right of the horse-shoe icons). This will allow you to upload your image file and embed it in with your text being posted.

Take a look on Amazon or other online shopping sites you trust for a copy of ATI 2018 or 19, 20 or 21 with a one-time perpetual license if you don't want to go down the subscription rabbit hole!
ATI 2018 was the first version to offer a 'Simple' option in the rescue media builder tool that will create WinPE media direct from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) files of Windows 10 or 11 without any need to download over 6GB of Windows ADK & PE Kits files!
Note: You could do the same by downloading a copy of Mustang's MVP Custom PE Builder tool which also offers the option to use the WinRE files, and use this with your ATI 2017 at no extra cost. The tool comes as a zip file that you just need to extract to a folder on your drive then run the MVP_ATIPEBuilder.exe executable as Administrator from that folder.
The tool is pretty straight-forward to use and present a series of multiple choice selections which should be self-explanatory.
Example below of the initial screens from the tool:

EUREKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Used New MS "Bing" / Bard Chat/ to create list of steps to allow an app "controlled folder access"
I followed steps to allow ATI files through. THAT was the reason everything kept failing.
I haven't touched a Windows computer since my "bullet proof" Windows 7 motherboard died, so I never heard of "Controlled Folder Access" so I just kept ignoring the notifications
Reran MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v190 SUCCESS
Created system image from Bootable USB SUCCESS
Question 1) How can I validate the image?
2) If it is true that MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v190 doesn't use "ADK & MVP Assistant" to make the WinPE version of "Bootable USB Flash Drive"
Can I / should I/ delete "ADK & MVP Assistant" and get back my 6GB of space?
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Moved a couple of Desktop folders and did a disk recovery C: drive all except recovery partition.
took all defaults except checked "disk Signature", and chose "validate archive"
It asked about where to put MBR (I knew enough to take the default)
Where can I read about the choices nfor a recovery and what they mean?
Again Thanks.
Andrew

Andrew, glad you have been successful with the Custom MVP PE Builder tool & media. Controlled folder access is very new and not something that I have encountered in anger as yet, don't think I have it enabled either!
Ref the 6GB of Windows ADK & PE Kits, then go into the Settings > Apps > Installed Apps and uninstall them from there!
See KB 59557: Acronis True Image: recovery methods and follow the further links provided.

Please update other MVPs Windows 11 "controlled folder Access" prevents Acronis True Image 2017 from working until its' allowed through. This info will prevent users from struggling and a lot of grief.
