Can a backup drive have several Acronis backups or does it use the whole backup drive

Thread needs solution

I bought a 3 computer license and would like to backup at least two computers to the same backup drive. It's a My Passport WD 2 TB hard drive.

It has some software on it that I don't care about, but do care that one computer backup would overwrite another. Is it possible to do this or the backup would demand the use of the whole drive?

Carol, welcome to these user forums.

Yes, you can backup multiple computers on the same external backup drive or backup the same computer multiple times etc.

When backing up different computers, then I would strongly recommend making a new folder on the backup drive for each computer to keep the backups separate, this will also help you to easily see what belongs to which computer etc.

An Acronis backup file is an archive container file that contains the compressed backup data, similar in concept to a zip file but unique to Acronis.

To add to Steve's note about using separate folders...

i use one main folder for all backups. In that folder is a folder for each separate backup. Those folders have unique names and so do the actual backup tasks. This keeps things organized and clean but may also help avoid software confusion by keeping backups sorted and using different backup names that don't cross pollinate between your systems.

I also create a directory for each backup task; it make it much easier to manage things.
