Can you sync folders between two computers without Acronis cloud?

Thread needs solution

I have some folders on my laptop and desktop that I want to sync.  Perferably I just want to sync them when I run ATI 2017 and run a sync job.

Can this be done without a cloud, and also NOT done in real time, i.e., when you manually click the sync button?

-Thanks

Bernard, I don't use the Acronis Sync feature so don't have any direct experience, but with ATIH 2017 Acronis look to have reenabled computer to computer syncs instead of requiring a sync to the Acronis Cloud first.

See the following from the ATIH 2017 User Guide:

What you can and cannot synchronize

You can synchronize data stored in two or more folders. Let's consider where these folders may be located and what data they may contain.

Storage types

A synchronization process may be established between:

  • Two or more folders on two or more computers.
  • One or more computers and Acronis Cloud.

Acronis Cloud always contains the last versions of the synced files. At the same time you cannot select a folder on Acronis Cloud to participate in a sync, such folder is created automatically.

Within one sync process you may assign only one sync folder on every computer.

From just doing a quick check I cannot see any way to operate the sync in the way you are asking, once you create the sync, then it is active and would sync any changes detected for the source folder.

Thanks, it looks like the cloud is always involved in a sync.  I don't want the cloud involved in syncing folders between two of my PC's.

"Acronis Cloud always contains the last versions of the synced files"

Bernard, I saw that particular statement in the user guide, but considered that it would only apply for when a Cloud sync has been configured, which in turn requires a Cloud subscription.  So, I read that there is a difference in the way sync works for local computers versus how it works when the Cloud is involved.

As I said earlier, I don't use the Acronis sync feature myself and don't actually see any need for the continuous sync that this would suggest for any of my folders.

I do use Dropbox as a means of sharing data between my computers, plus I have a Synology NAS and use the Synology Cloud-Drive application which also synchronises specific folders between my systems.  Finally, I use the free SyncFolders utility for adhoc syncs on an 'on-demand' basis.

Cloud is not required for all sync as of 2017 versions.  It depends on the Cloud sync option you originally selected though.  I don't use it either, but there is a clear option to select sync without cloud...
