Cannot find file in Acronis Cloud

Thread needs solution

Hello!

My ATIH 2017 makes an incremental backup of drive C: (System drive) every day. Today I wanted to download yesterday´s "outlook.pst" from it. But I could not find it there. Why? Thanks for your help!

Kind regards

Hi Klaus,

The problem with backing up open Microsfot Office products, is they are often committed to memory and not saved to the local hard drive automatically.  Anything in memory is skipped in a backup.

Microsoft VSS and Outlook have been known to have issues when attempting to volume snapshot some of these files as a result.

I can't say for sure what the issue is in this case (check your exclusions and make sure it is not excluded though).  However, I can make a suggestion that should/may help your issue.

1) Try to backup the system when the PST is not actively open.  This will ensure it's committed to the hard drive and not stored in memory.

2) Alternatively and preferably in addition to your full system backup, also consider a secondary backup of just the .pst file.  Again though, I would make sure to try and backup the .pst when it is not in use to ensure it's committed to the hard drive first.  If you do create a second backup for the .pst, try to spread it out from the other to give you better chances of backup and variations in recovery.   For instance, if you backup your entire PC at 8PM every day, then do the .pst backup every day at perhaps 11AM (or whenever would be convenient.   That way, hopefully, you would have 2 backups in the same day, but spread out to give you a better chance of capturing the data and having multiple recovery options.

3) Acronis use MS VSS to backup the system by default.  You could also try changing your PST backup to restort to the proprietary snapapi backup method which was the default in 2014 and earlier.  Try a new PST backup with VSS and another with the snapapi method and see if one works better than the other in your setup.
