Cannot Recover Disk from Synology NAS via Acronis Bootable

Thread needs solution

Long time user of Acronis ATI.  Recently upgraded NAS Synology DS713+ from 4.3xxxx to 6.1.4-15217 Update 2.  While upgrade required 5-intermediate upgrades, all shares are operable, as are Acronis full backups.

Recently attempted data disk recovery from NAS backup via Acronis v8053 Bootable DVD as had been done in the past.  Acronis 1) linux boot DVD doesn't see the share while navigating with \\192.168.0.15\Backups\ or \\Diskstation\Backups\ 2) typing either to force, results in a prompt for NAS share username/password which is rejected.  Boot DVD recognizes Network.

How to troubleshoot?

Thanks,

Fixed the issue.  MVPs put this in your back pocket especially when referencing Synology.  When WannaCry was rampant, many extolled the value of eliminating 'smb1' protocol for Vista and higher, which I did months ago.

Somewhere within my 5 Synology upgrades, Smb levels became configurable (Maximum and Minimum) accepted protocol levels.  Configurable Smb levels correspond to 'smb1', 'smb2', 'smb2 with large MTU', and 'smb3'.  With performance and security in mind and only Windows 7 and higher systems, configured Minimum Smb protocol as 'smb2 with large MTU'.  This works for Acronis backups *HOWEVER*, it appears Acronis Boot Media defaults to 'smb1' at least at the credential handshake stage.  Changing Synology Minimum Smb protocol to 'smb1' allowed successful credentials.

asterger, thank you for sharing your findings with us.  I also have a Synology NAS and have configured it to accept a minimum of SMB2 but haven't had a need to test my rescue media recently, so useful to know your tip.

I rarely use the default Linux based Rescue Media - I mainly use the MVP Custom WinPE on a USB stick, which should work just fine with SMB2 and later.  With ATI 2018, Acronis have defaulted to creating the WinPE (WinRE) Rescue Media (via the Simple creation option).

asterger...thanks for the information & feedback.  I also have a Synology and, like Steve have it configured with minimum smb 2.  I'll do a test restore and see if the WinRE rescue media works with smb 2 as the minimum.

Contrary to you MVPs, I always use the Linux based Acronis Boot Media.  It's easier (to me) than jumping through the build of WinPE.  I don't use RAID and since the inclusion of NVMe drivers, I'm happy with that method.

When booting my UEFI Acronis Boot Media, I'm presented with a menu item referencing <e> kernel command line [options].  Do you know where I can find a list of available kernel command line [options]?

Thanks,

See the ATI 2018 User Guide: Bootable media startup parameters which gives a list of parameters you can use.  This would be the same for other versions of ATI.

Thanks Steve, was hoping entering a Bootable media startup parameter might allow forcing smb level.  'tis not to be.
