Thank you Steve; yes, I'm using ATIH2017, but "traditional" Copy and Paste does not work. I get always "no such interface supported"

Paolo, are you using Windows Explorer or are you using a different file manager?
How far do you get when doing this?
Does the .TIB file open in Windows Explorer and show you the contents of the backup file?
Can you select the file you want to copy, and can you do the Copy function (Ctrl+C)?
Is the error only seen when trying to do the Paste operation?
If so, where are you trying to paste the file to?
Have you tried to paste to a temporary location such as your Desktop?

Paolo, thanks for the answers / clarification. It looks to me that the issue here is more related to some possible protection mechanism on your computer, i.e. security software that is preventing the paste from succeeding?
Do you have any other files that you can try to copy & paste from the same .tib file?
Do you have any other .tib files that you can try to do the same from?
What is the build version of your ATIH 2017? Build 8053 Standard or Build 6206 New Generation are the latest.
If you already have the latest build installed, then the only further suggestion would be to try doing a Repair install using the latest build installer downloaded from your Acronis account which you can just install over the top of your existing software to see the Repair option.
The other option is to open a Support Case directly with Acronis for this problem and let them work directly with you to identify the cause. If you do this, please let us know the outcome.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my new install of ATIH 2018. The problem occurs when trying to paste to a folder or the desktop. The Windows "Copying..." box pops up and then after a few seconds "No such interface supported".

Jim, welcome to these User Forums.
If you are using ATI 2018 then you will need to 'Turn off Acronis Active Protection' before trying to copy / paste .tib files as AAP is designed to prevent malware from doing such actions.
Look for the AAP icon in the system tray area of your desktop (shield icon with A on blue background) - right-click on the icon to see a menu with options.

Thanks, Steve, for the welcome, the quick response, and the tip. Unfortunately, turning off AAP had no effect. I still get the message "No such interface supported." (But I'm glad to know about that AAP tray icon.)

Jim, quick follow up question: are you trying to copy a .tib file here or are you copying a file or folder from within a .tib file?
If you are doing the latter, then are you doing this using Windows / File Explorer or using a different file manager tool?

Steve, I'm trying to copy a file from WITHIN the .tib file. (I tried copying a folder; same result.) Yes, using Windows File Explorer. Thanks for helping me out with this. It's a great feature of Acronis (which I've just started using; replacing Carbonite).

Jim, if you can open the .tib file in order to select a file to be copied, then the Acronis shell integration feature should be working fine, therefore the issue when trying to paste that file to another location has to be being caused by either the location where you are pasting to, or by other security type software preventing the paste to that location.
Can you try pasting the file from the .tib container to a different location, preferably one that is not on the OS C: partition or the root of that drive? Perhaps try copying to a USB stick and see if that is allowed?

Steve, with your hints and some testing, I think I have it figured out and working fine. There may have been two problems.
First, my .tib files are located on a Synology NAS (which may or may not be relevant, as it turns out). I MAY have been working out of a .tib that was created with Acronis's File Level Security Settings set to Preserve File Security Settings In Backups. In that case, it's possible the Synology permissions interfered. At some point I found and UNchecked that box. I don't think that was a problem, but I can't be sure.
Second, I'm using a full / incremental backup scheme. In trying to copy files from a .tib, I was not paying attention to the .tib file date/time or the distinction between full and incremental .tib files. I have now learned that I can successfully copy any file from a FULL backup .tib. But from an INCREMENTAL backup .tib I can only get the files that were actually in that increment -- duhh! So I need to know the date(s) of my target file(s) and carefully choose the appropriate incremental .tib, or go fishing and expect error messages.
ATIH could have made my life easier in either of two ways. First, the "no such interface" error message was unhelpful and could be handled better. Second, when the incremental .tib contents are displayed, my confusion might have been avoided if the display showed ONLY the files available in that incremental .tib. Or it might show the full list but also indicate the available files. (I suppose using differentials instead of incrementals would help a little, but the differential .tib would still show me files I couldn't copy.)
By the way, I tried the file pasting you suggested (and numerous other possibilities) and got the same error. Now I understand why.
Anyway, thank you so much, Steve, for hanging in there with me. I'm still happy with my choice of Acronis.

Jim, thanks for the update / feedback, glad you have figured out what is going on with this issue - I find there is always something new to learn regardless of age!

I am having this problem, too and was happy to read Jim Reitmuller's distinction between copying from Incremental and full TIB sets. Double-duh!
I second the request for an indication in Windows File explorer flag that shows which files in the incremental TIB can be copied/opened.

Andrew, welcome to these User Forums.
Please can you use the Feedback tool in the ATI GUI to make your concern about this issue known to Acronis with a reference to this forum topic for more details.

Hello Everyone,
the described behavior looked add to me I tried to reproduce the issue. Deployed a new virtual machine with Acronis True Image 2019, created a backup of a folder with some files in it, then added more files and mad an incremental backup. Opened the incremental slice with double-click and tried to copy one of the files added before the second attempt - no warnings. My colleagues from the product team also confirm the product should handle such use cases (a user should be able to copy/view any file from any archive in the chain given the product has access to all dependent backup versions in the chain).

Dear User,
A very late and out of date response, I’m afraid!
I encountered the same problem some years ago (I am now on True Image 2021) and discovered that selecting Protection on the Side Bar and temporarily turning the protection Off resolved the problem. You must of course turn Protection back On after the copying is completed.
Best wishes,
Stephen

Dear Stephen, Are you talking about disabling the standard protection method, namely Windows Defender, in version 2021 it no longer conflicts?

Fedot, welcome to these public User Forums.
Stephen was referring to Acronis Active Protection which is controlled from within the ATI 2021 GUI by opening the Protection panel (shown on the left side of the GUI).
