Can't install

Thread needs solution

I decided to install the trial version of ATI. My HDD showed over 1GB free space before downloading. During installation, I got a message that  the installation failed. Checking the free space again, it showed 888MB free. I decided to delete the program if it showed up, and try again. It does not appear in the list of programs. Any advice? One more question. Does the trial version only work transferring data over the web, or will it work from my PC to an external hard drive? I'd like to get the job done as soon as possible, even though my new HDD hasn't been delivered yet. Thanks for any suggestions.

Ed, the trial version should work to any local drive as well as to the Acronis Cloud storage.

If the installation of the ATIH 2017 trial software failed, then first check any checksum data for the downloaded file if available, or retry the download and install again - ensure that you run the install as Administrator.

If you still have problems, then use the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below) and then retry again after restarting the computer.

Still didn't work. They recommend you make a backup before running the cleanup tool. I don't have a good backup option, so I'm hesitant to run it. I also get the message that Windows 10 was detected, and the tool will help uninstall the program. But I don't have Windows 10. I'm running Windows 7, so seeing a message like that doesn't give me a lot of faith in running the cleanup tool. I really very much appreciate your help, but I think I'll check out my options other than ATI. Thank you for your time.

I'd say that 1GB free space is just not enough.  If your hard drive has less than 1GB free space, that's going to cause trouble on it's own.  At a minimum, you should never go below 10% usable space on any drive due to the need for the system caching to transfer files.  Tack on things like paging files, recycle bin, possible patches in the background, temp directories that are created when you start your userprofile, log files that start when the sytem is in use, etc. - 1GB just isn't enough.  The Acronis executable will eat up a couple hundred Mb on it's own.  To extract it, that will take another couple hundred in temp folders in your user profile /appdata too.  Plus all the other mentioned items... you really need to free up more space on your OS drive as your system preformance is probably severely hampered with no space to use for basic OS operations with only 1GB "free".

Thank you Bobbo. That's exactly what I thought. I found an old hard drive in the garage, but I don't yet know if it works or not. I'll try installing it, and moving a bunch of files to it if it's good. Might do that tomorrow.
