Can't transfer ATI 2017 license

Thread solved

I started with:

  • Acronis True Image 2015 for PC (English)

I installed Acronis True Image 2015 on 1 computers.

I then bought:

  • Acronis True Image 2017 Upgrade - 1 Computer
  • Acronis True Image 2017 1 Computer

I installed Acronis True Image 2017 on 2 computers. 1 previously had Acronis True Image 2015.

I have since bought 4 licenses for:

  • Acronis True Image 2018 1 Computer
  • Acronis True Image 2018 3 Computers

I installed Acronis True Image 2018 on 4 computers. 2 of these previously had Acronis True Image 2017. That means the 2 Acronis True Image 2017 licenses should be available to use on other computers.

I installed Acronis True Image 2017 on a computer and entered one of the product keys for it and got the error message "You exceeded the maximum number of of activations for this serial number." The instructions said to log into my Acronis account but I got the error "An error occurred while signing in. Please try again later." This has been going on for a week now. Why can't I transfer the license to another computer? How can I resolve this?

BTW, I have no problem with Acronis True Image 2018 on the other 4 computers and can log in with no problems.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is I can never get to the activation step. The first thing it does is ask me to log in. Logging in fails every time. I have no problem logging in using my web browser.

Edward, see KB 58546: Acronis True Image 2017: Activating Full Version and follow the steps for 'Activation from another computer' which is now needed for older versions of ATI because of security changed to the Acronis servers.

Hello everyone!

In addition to what Steve posted, I would also like to add this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/ati2017/moveactivation

Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem.  I just want to move some 2017 ATI licenses from some computers I don't use to some new ones.  I can click on resolve problem to get the too many activations dialog.  When I click on "I have installed ATI on a new computer" I get the installed on a new computer dialog.  Then when I click on "Move license from another computer" I get the login dialog box, enter my credentials, and get the same error trying to log on as reported previously in this thread.  When I use the same credentials at the www.acronis.com site, I get logged in with no problem.

Is the 2017 move process authenticating with another credential database that may have an older version of my password?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I've effectively got 3 unused licenses that I could use on new computers.

Bill

Hello Bill,

I suggest that you take a look at this KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/47168

Please apply all the solutions and suggestions mentioned there.

Feel free to update this thread if you encounter any issues during the process.

Best regards.

Bill, welcome to these public User Forums.

Any versions of ATI prior to 2018 can no longer activate online due to security changes at the Acronis servers.  ATI 2018 thru' 2021 were issued with new build versions that used the new security requirements.

For ATI 2017 and earlier, then see my earlier comment to Edward, and in particular:

see KB 58546: Acronis True Image 2017: Activating Full Version and follow the steps for 'Activation from another computer' which is now needed for older versions of ATI because of security changed to the Acronis servers.

The instructions I get from the link to Activation from another computer do not help. The problem is I don't have an option to Activate offline as shown below. If I select Resolve problem I end up with a dialog to log into my account. If I enter my username and password I get a login error.

Edward, your image shows ATI 2017 build 8058 which was not the final build.

Please try installing  Acronis True Image 2017 for PC ( Build #8065 ) from Acronis to see if that final version gives you the drop-down list with the Activate offline option?

I just updated to Acronis True Image 2017 for PC (Build #8065). Still no option for offline activation.

Note that there is an error that says "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number". I tried my other serial number for ATI 2017 and got the same error.

The other computers that used to have ATI 2017 now have full non-upgrade versions of ATI 2018. I haven't had any computer with ATI 2017 for over two years.

BTW, I just looked at the computer screen with the problematic ATI 2017. A dialog just popped up with an upgrade offer for Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office. Are they trying to force me to upgrade?

Edward, you can ignore the advert tempter for ACPHO - that is an annual subscription version only!

One last suggestion here is to try disconnecting the PC with ATI 2017 from any internet access.

See KB 56553: Acronis True Image 2016: "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number" which describes this last approach.

Hello, I apologize for any inconvenience. In fact, there is an ongoing marketing campaign, and these pop-ups will continue to appear as long as the campaign is active. You can temporarily disable them by clicking on the exit button. Nevertheless, I have also forwarded the message to the team for further consideration. Best regards.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to this.

I did as suggested and disconnected the computer from Internet.

When I went to activate ATI the only option without logging into my Acronis account was to enter the Serial Number. I entered the desired ATI 2017 serial number. I then exited ATI 2017.

I then reconnected the Internet and started ATI 2017 again.

I logged into my Acronis account and selected to transfer license to new computer.

I was given the name of the computer that ATI 2017 was previously installed on.

After I selected that computer the ATI 2017 key was transferred to the new computer.

ATI 2017 is now successfully activated on the new computer.

I want to thank all that helped me resolve this problem.
