Clone of Windows 10 Harddisc Drive C

Thread needs solution

Hallo,

I just bought the full version and I started clonid the C drive to an external Harddisk. Acronis asked  me to confirm RESTART otherwise it wouldn´t start.

Thats what I did.

Now I have the DELL Logo on the screen and the external HD working....

Does this mean that the clone is being created right now?

Thank You

Nondas, welcome to these user forums.

The honest answer to your question: "Does this mean that the clone is being created right now?" is perhaps, but probably not!

You have started the clone from within Windows which is not recommended because of this type of issue - Acronis has to modify the Windows boot configuration to create a temporary environment from which to perform the clone, and if you still are seeing the Dell logo, it has not got as far as running the Acronis program.

Second, you are cloning to an external hard disk which is again not recommended.

I would recommend shutting down your system, disconnecting the external HDD and then restarting into Windows normally.

Next, create the Acronis bootable Rescue Media using the Rescue Media Builder which is provided with ATIH 2017 in the Tools area - you can create the media on DVD or a USB stick (minimum size 1GB).

The recommended method for doing cloning, is then to shutdown the system, remove the source drive from the computer, replace it with the new target HDD drive you wish to clone to, and connect the original source drive via USB (in a caddy or via an adapter USB - SATA).

Next, boot from the Acronis Rescue Media and check that you can see both the external (source) drive and the internal target drives - then perform the clone from the source to the target drive.

See KB document: 56634: Acronis True Image: Cloning Disks for more information on the above process and a video tutorial showing it.
