Cloud speed

Thread needs solution

I've got Acronis True Image 2015 currently and was considering upgrading to get better NAS stability. The mobile backup thing also looked neat.

I've not used the Acronis Cloud before, as I heard the speeds were atrocious. Has this improved? What can a user from Europe with 150/50 Mbit/s internet connection expect?

Without cloud, the 1-year subscription does not make a lot of sense, but without high speeds, cloud does not make sense. Hence I'm looking for some real-world experiences.

Cheers

aheid, welcome to these user forums.

There is always the option of going for a 30 day trial copy of ATIH 2017 to see how it would work for your own situation.

Acronis Cloud speeds are dependent on a number of factors, not the least being your own ISP upload / download speeds.  The remote servers can only ever operate at the speed of the slowest component in the network path.

There are servers located within Europe and you should select the one nearest to your geographic location.  See KB document: 4350: Acronis Backup to Cloud Access Ports and Hostnames to see a list of those servers.

See also KB document: 58522: Acronis True Image 2017 Licensing for information on the different options if you do decide to consider upgrading to 2017.

Thank you for the quick reply.

My experience from other "cloud products" is that my ISP is usually not even close to being the slowest component, hence why I was curious about real-world experiences.

My daily changes can range in the 20-30 GB range (incremental backup scheme), with the total backup set being ~300GB. As you can imagine, it would be pointless with the cloud option if their servers cannot manage more than ~5Mbps.

I guess I could try the 2017 model on my laptop. Can I use the same account on my laptop for the trial, or should I make a new one to avoid it interfering with my existing 2015 install on my desktop PC?

I would recommend keeping with your same Acronis account if going for the 2017 trial, it will make it simpler if you decide to go ahead and purchase later.

One recommendation before doing the trial, take a full OS drive backup before installing 2017 so that you have an easy way of reverting back to your current status if needed.

I personally have not made any full system backups to the Cloud, my own ISP speeds are too slow for the size of data involved - I only get max 70MB download / 5MB upload speeds.

Acronis do offer an option to preload your full backup image on their servers at a cost for those who require it.  Once you have a full backup uploaded then backing up to the cloud works only on Delta's for any changes that take place, you don't have the options of making a new full backup after x incrementals etc as far as I understand.  Working with a delta of the changes should make subsequent backups / uploads much quicker and also allows for the upload to be paused / resumed as needed.

I have a 100/100 internet connection and get around 95Mb/s upload speed at best when i use Acronis Cloud.

I live in Sweden and i have set the "Data center" to Germany since that´s the nearest location for me.

Thank you Roger, that's very helpful and encouraging.
