Computer Xover
Installed a new HD on a Toshiba Protege (old one failed); added windows 10.
Next step is to Xover all programs from a Lenovo with windows 7. I want to copy everything , including passwords and Regristration data.
1. How do I connect the two computers?
2. How do I do this without bringing the Mis-matched OS (MS7). Could never upgrade the Lenovo 7 to MS10 - MS/Lenovo were no help. Just figured I'd wait until it was time for a new computer, but had this perfectly good Toshiba with a failed drive.

I will try this:
1. Install new drive on the Toshiba
2. Install Acronis True Image 2017 onto the Lenovo
3*. Connect the two computers
4. Use Acronis True Image 2017 to move Windows 7 from Lenovo to Toshiba
5**. Use Acronis Universal Restore to Xfer data and programs from Lenovo to Toshiba
6. Upgrade Toshiba to Windows 10
The worst case scenario is that I would have a better computer running on windows 7.
Questions:
* How do I connect the two computers?
**Is the Universal Restore a feature of Acronis True Image 2017?

Sorry but Acronis does not work as you have outlined. The process would be as follows (put very simply):
- Backup the Lenovo Windows 7 OS disk drive using Acronis 2017 to an external disk drive - this will create an Acronis backup image file with a file extension of .TIB. It is important to include all partitions from the Lenovo disk drive, including hidden and system partitions. You can use Acronis bootable Rescue Media to do this backup - once you have purchased and registered your Acronis 2017 software, you can download an ISO image for the Rescue Media from your Acronis account website and burn this to DVD media, then boot from this media to make the backup.
- Insert the Acronis Rescue Media into the Toshiba system and boot this system from the same media. If this is going to work correctly, the Rescue Media must be booted in the same way on both the Lenovo and Toshiba systems. You can check the boot method used on both systems by reading webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS and then ensuring that both systems can both boot in the same way. If both use EFI then this is fairly straight-forward, but if one uses MBR (or Legacy BIOS) and the other uses UEFI, then assuming that the Toshiba is the system using UEFI, then you will need to modify the EFI BIOS settings to use Legacy/CSM.
- Once you are able to boot the Toshiba in the same mode as the Lenovo (Legacy/MBR or UEFI on both), then restore the Lenovo Windows 7 backup image to the Toshiba disk drive. You would be recommended to make a backup of the Toshiba drive before doing the restore, so that you can get back to your starting point if things don't work out.
- Assuming that you have successfully restored the Lenovo backup image to the Toshiba disk drive, then shutdown the Toshiba system, disconnect the backup drive and remove the Acronis Rescue Media - do not attempt to boot into Windows yet!
- For the next step, you will need a copy of the Acronis Universal Restore bootable media - this cannot be downloaded as an ISO file, so you will have to have installed Acronis 2017 on your Lenovo system and create the AUR media from within the Acronis application.
- Insert the AUR media into the Toshiba and boot this in the same mode as used for the rescue media. Use the AUR application to prepare your restored Lenovo backup of Windows 7 OS to work on the new Toshiba hardware. If you are prompted by AUR to provide device drivers for either the Toshiba disk controller or motherboard chipset components, you will need to be able to provide these.
- Again, assuming that AUR is successful, then remove the AUR media and then restart the system to test whether you can boot into Windows 7.
