create bootup media - device is busy
Just purchased Acronis True Image 2017 yesterday.
I completed my first BU to my local drive last night but when I attempted to create a bootable DVD, I get a "The device is busy" error message . Any recommendations?

dbWizard,
Make certain that no other application is using the DVD device. Windows Media Player running in the background may cause such an error.
If the DVD device is an external USB connected drive I would suggest shutdown the computer, unplug the derive and restart the computer. After the computer starts and all startup applications have loaded then plugin the DVD drive. Windows should recognize a new device and initialize it which should clear up the problem.

Windows may have "cached" somethign else in the waitng to be burned temp folder. You can try creating a .iso file and then using Windows to specifically burn the .iso instead.
If you're using Windows 10 and want to see if something else is pending to be burned, just right click on the CD/DVD drive and select the option to "burn to disc". If somethign is cached already, it will list those files waiting to be burned and you can burn them or delete them so you can proceed with trying to burn directly in Acronis.
Also, was this a brand new Acronis install, or an upgrade where a previous version of Acronis may have been installed at some time before? If so, what was the old version? Upgrades from before 2016, may have "left overs" that could be fixed with a complete uninstall and running the cleanup tool... then download the latest installer and be sure to "right-click and run as administrator" to install (even if logged in as admin already). YOu'll be starting "clean" with everything though so that means recreating backup tasks (although you can still recover from existing .tib files if you need/want to)

Windows 7, Pro
DVD-R is brand new, formatted
There do not appear to be any pending writes to the DVD, but I honestly don't know where I would look for those.
New install of Acronis True Image 2017
Rebooted the computer and am still getting the message in my OP.

Dale, I have just tested this function on my laptop running ATIH 2017 build 6206 (New Generation) and was able to create a Rescue DVD (Linux version) with no issue at all.
Use the MVP Log Viewer (link below if needed) and check the TI_media_builder log to see if there are any clues given there for what is happening on your system? I see as follows:

Dale, the logs look fine other than being missing the final 'The operation has completed.' entries each time, which would suggest that there is a problem when either writing to the optical media or in finalising that media?
Have you tried to burn any other media to DVD on your system outside of using the Acronis media creator tool?
I would suggest trying a different CD/DVD burner program if you have one, even if only to burn a music disc. I can recommend using CDburnerXP if you need an alternative free program to use.

Steve, the DVD is formatted to operate as though it were any other Windows drive. Do I need to reformat it and configure it differently?

I was able to write several files to the DVD, but did not have to actually "burn" the DVD.

Dale, I think that you have found the root cause of this issue. If your DVD is being held open by the OS in the way you describe then I suspect that this renders it incompatible with the media burner tool being used here.

Steve,
Seems that resolved the issue. I placed an unformatted DVD in the drive and the rescue media process is running fine now!
Thanks for your help!
