DB Files

Thread needs solution

I installed the newest version of ATI and named my tasks the same as I named the sub directories that the task results would go too.  I later renamed the task names and actually changed some of the tasks and then changed the path sub directories to the same name as the task.  All works fine but periodically the old folder names show up in the target drive and of course they are empty and I just delete them.

I searched for where this old source path was coming from and I found the exact wording in log and db files.  The log files I assume are not the culprit so that leaves the DB files.  I opened them with a text editor and found the old path data but did not try and edit because it looked too complicated.  I assume I have to start from scratch and reinstall?  Any way to rebuild the DB files so they contain pertinent information only?

Gifford, please do not attempt to edit the Acronis Database files, these are SQL data files and should not be edited by a text editor (or at all).

The issue you are seeing is because of all the renaming that you are doing for your backup tasks and the target destination folders where this is being applied to existing tasks, thus the Acronis Database is keeping a record of these changes.

The real issue here is the renaming of the target destination folders, as Acronis can cope with the renaming of the task, providing that you do not also rename any backup files that were created with the original name of the task.

If you want to continue with this type of activity, then I would suggest a slightly different approach.

  1. Set and keep your required target destination folders.  Leave these with the names given and do not rename them later.
  2. Create your backup tasks and point these to the desired target destination folders.
  3. Rename the backup tasks as required but do not change the destination folders.
This will result in the backup folder having files with the names of the original task and the new task names.
If you use Automatic Cleanup in your backup tasks, this will cope with the different file names by tracking these in the Acronis Database files.
