Did I get ripped off?
Why did you change my Acronis True Image 2017 to a trial with that free update? It might as well be a virus you are giving us. I have wasted about $100 in time trying to figure it out. You took my Cloning, etc. until I buy another version. Seems like you owe me the full version update free for ripping me off. Are others being ripped off, also? and do we need a Class Action Lawsuit to get paid back?
I want an answer and my Acronis back working, now.

Thanks, but that didn't work. Acronis would only let me put in the license number to Activate, then it said the license was not for the new Generation, but for my True Image 2017.

Gary, please remove your email address from your first post in this topic unless you wish to invite unwanted spam mail.
If you have a valid ATIH 2017 Standard license, but you now have the New Generation product installed, you will need to uninstall New Generation then download / install the latest Standard (build #8029) installer from your Acronis account. This will bring your installed product back into line with the license you hold.

Thanks for the quick answer. I am so angry with programs like Acronis that start out amazing then they turn bad. We need Class Action lawsuits against these companies that go bad and cost us so much time and money. They want you to check for updates on startup of their program then they change your program to one that wants you to buy the New Generation just to do the cloning (and other functions) that you used to do before their junk update. Then you have to uninstall the program and download and re install the program I bought before because Acronis messed me up. Then the stupid program is making me reboot to use my program again.
It may take me days to shut down all the scores of things I am doing then reboot, but I need my Acronis soon. I made a copy of one of my backup drives the other day and it wanted me to reboot. Is it going to make me reboot every time I use it for drives that I am not even using on Windows?

Gary, you are welcome to express your anger / feelings about these programs etc but I am not personally wanting to get involved in a Class Action lawsuit whatever that actually means (I live in the UK and we have not adopted the US desire to take legal action as a first response to something we do not like, or at least the majority have not).
Acronis does an automatic check for updates when the main application starts, provided this is enabled in the GUI settings (which it is by default), but it still upto the user to actually click on the button to perform the update.
I agree that you should not have been upgraded to a different license version without that being made absolutely obvious, along with a warning of the potential increased costs that would be involved!
As for Acronis requiring a reboot when making a backup or clone, this really depends on whether the source / target drives involved have been locked by Windows. If either drive has Windows locks on it, then a reboot will always be required. If there are no locks, then Acronis can perform the action without rebooting. You can test if a drive is locked by attempting to do a CHKDSK on the drive, that too will advise that it must be scheduled at the next reboot if locks are present.
