Diffentials

Thread needs solution

Hello

I want to use differentials.  I should be able to delete some of the intermediate diff images to reduce the size of the chain.

If I take a full and 3 diffentials I can indeed delete one of them and continue taking new  ones.

BUT:  When I go to restore ATI complains it's missing a file and I can't restore, so is this possible and how?

This is ATI Home 2017

You should not delete differentials manually - the Acronis database is not aware of such changes and expects those files to still be where it created them.  The best method is to create a new backup task and use a cleanup task to only hold a number of differentials so it does this automatically.

However, in your case, if you manually delete them, you should immediately "validate" the backup and when it prompts that files are missing, tell it to ignore them.  That will update the database.

Hi Bobbi

Thanks you for responding.  I actually did figure it out.  Must say compared to other imaging programs this is this side of ridiculous.  I am done with Acronis.  They have forgotten their mission.

Hello Pete,

I've added this thread to an open change request to implement more flexible and clear cleanup options. This request has been accepted by our product team and is expected to be implemented in one of the future product versions.

Thank you,
