Disk usage become 100% after using disk cleanser

Thread needs solution

I applied disk cleanser to F drive. After a few hours, I came back and the computer showed a black screen. I restarted the computer and the C drive free space went from 120 GB to 40 MB. How to fix this ?

Edwin, welcome to these User Forums.

I have not used the Acronis DriveCleanser tool in a long time as have had no need to do so but wonder if when you saw the computer showing a black screen if it was still working on cleaning the drive F: and hadn't finished the task?  The user guide does warn that depending on the Algortihm selected, that the process can take a very long time to run.

I suspect that the free space on your drive C: was used to hold temporary data for the DriveCleaner tool and should normally have been released when tool finished processing normally.

I can only suggest using the Windows Disk Clean-up tool to reclaim that temporary data space, or else use another program such as CCleaner from Piriform to do the same.

I tried the windows clean-up tool as well as ccleaner. I was only able to reclaim about 1GB of space. Any idea on where the temporary files might be located at?

Edwin, try downloading a copy of TreeSize Free and using this to show you where all the used space has been taken from, this will show you a map of your C: drive by size of folders.

Identified the location of the files by the tool, but wasn't able to delete them as they were in use. Went to task manager and ended all processes with the name acronis in it. Now it's all good. Thanks a lot for the help :)

Glad this is sorted Edwin, thanks for the feedback.
