Do I need two different subscriptions?

Thread needs solution

On the Acronis True Image 2017 page I can see several version of bying software - with Acronis Cloud from 50 Gb to 5 Tb.

But in my profile I see unlimited Acronis Cloud storage subscription.

So which storage I will get at all?

Should I buy cheepest Acronis True Image 2017 and then buy separate Acronis Cloud subscription?

Viktor, welcome to these user forums.

The key difference in the Acronis True Image 2017 products are whether you are buying a perpetual license or a subscription license.

A perpetual license means that you can continue to use the software with full functionality for as long as it will work for you.

A subscriptions license means that you must renew your subscription when that runs out or else you lose all key functionality except for being able to restore an existing backup.

The cloud storage is additional for a perpetual license and does not affect the long term usability of the product other than losing all access to that cloud storage if you do not renew the subscription to the cloud component.

Suscription licenses include an agree amount of cloud storage and you must renew to continue to have access to that storage.

Thanks, Steve.

Can you tell me is cloud storage only for perpetual license?

How much storage volume do I get when I buy subscription license with 500 Gb and additionly cloud storage with unlimited storage?

Typcially, cloud storage has only been available with a subscritpion license and perpetual (stand-a-lone) license had no cloud storage.

However, with 2017 you can purchase storage seperately as an add-on to your perpetual license through the "Acronis Store" via the application.  Not sure of the amounts or prices - you should contact pre-sales technical support to see what options are available.

I am interested in what I’ve read about TI 2017 and have a few questions:

1.  Will I be able to use the back-ups I made using TI 2012 after I upgrade to TI 2017?

2.  How does the Cloud Storage work in terms of back-ups?  Are similar files written to the cloud as would be written to another disk?

3.  I read a review of TI 2017, which was favorable, but it said that, with the cloud, you could see “only the whole computer.”  Could you please clarify that situation?

4.  Is the cloud storage only for back-ups?  Or is it a little like Dropbox—that I can put on it individual files, for example pictures?

5.  If I buy a license for more than one computer, does each computer get its own cloud, storage, or are all on the same allocation?

Thanks,

Tonio

I'd suggest you double check any questions with pre-sales technical support (just to be sure), but here are my replies:

1.  Will I be able to use the back-ups I made using TI 2012 after I upgrade to TI 2017?

Yes, but you will need to retainr yoru 2012 recovery media to access them.  2012 backups are not directly supported as of 2015 and newer.  1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions

2.  How does the Cloud Storage work in terms of back-ups?  Are similar files written to the cloud as would be written to another disk?

No, these are proprietary .tib backups (True Image Backup).  You'll be able to navigate the backups like you would in File Explorer (via the cloud login or the Acronis app), but they aren't actually the files just copied.  Think of it kind of like all of your data in .zip format, where winzip or 7zip can navigate the contents and you can restore files/folders from within those.  When you log into the cloud backup, you'll see the contents as you'd expect to navigate them.

3.  I read a review of TI 2017, which was favorable, but it said that, with the cloud, you could see “only the whole computer.”  Could you please clarify that situation?

I'm not sure what that review meant.  You can backup an entire PC, hard drive, paritions, or just files and folders.  You can different backup types to the cloud as well.. for instance, I do a weekly full disk backup and I also do a second daily file/folder backup of just my profile.

4.  Is the cloud storage only for back-ups?  Or is it a little like Dropbox—that I can put on it individual files, for example pictures?

Acronis backups only that are created from the application - it is not a file storage solution.

5.  If I buy a license for more than one computer, does each computer get its own cloud, storage, or are all on the same allocation?

You'll have to check with technical support based upon the deal / type of storage purchased.  For instance, if you purchase a 3 pc license with 500Gb storage, you'll be sharing that storage with all 3 pc's.

Personally, and this is just me... I would not use Cloud as your only backup - it's slow - usually due to ISP upload limits.  It is great for offsite disaster recovery and once the initial full backups complete, the changes are pretty quick.  However, initial seeding can be quite slow.  You can create local backups and restore from them in a fraction of the time.  However, if those fail (hardware failure, disaster, theft, etc), having that offsite cloud backup storage is your saving grace.

Wrong.

If using the "Files and folders"-backup or the "Sync" feature of True Image the *individual files* are stored in Acronis Cloud. For example, if i select one hundred files in True Image you will find those very one hundered files in Acronis Cloud and they will not be packed to one (1) .tib file.

It´s easy to share individual files to people as well from Acronis Cloud, similar to Dropbox.

Good to know is that True image is more flexible than Dropbox. :)
