Failed to open backup (DVD)

Thread needs solution

Trying to backup full new Dell laptop with Acronis True Image 2017 to DVD RW.  I tried twice, and each time it completes with no errors, but I try to verify, or recover files, or even Change Destination, it says "Failed to open backup \cdrecorder\dev=0,1,0...... ".  I'm pretty sure I'm using it exactly has I had on the previous laptop.

I can see the disc and TIB file in windows explorer.  Any idea what is going on?

Double, welcome to these User Forums.

I have to confess that I have never used DVD RW media for backups by Acronis so have no experience to draw upon for your question.

I would recommend downloading the MVP Log Viewer tool and using this to see what messages are recorded in the backup task log file, to see if that offers any help on what the issue is?  I am assuming here that you are using the installed Windows ATI 2017 application to make the backup to DVD?

Personally, I would recommend using a USB external drive for your backups, they are relatively inexpensive and IMO more reliable than using optical media.

Yes, ATI 2017 build 8058, installed on the laptop .  I had to un/reinstall it because it would not let me change the destination.  I switched to an ext. USB drive and that completed successfully.  Pretty convinced there is a defect with writing to DVD, but I'm fine with the USB solution.  Thanks!

Good to hear that a backup to your USB drive worked for you, thanks for the feedback.
