I can't duplicate a 250GB HD.

After selecting the source HD and target HD en confirming that all data will be erased on the target disk

and pressing 'proceed' I got this error: failed to write data to the disk

Failed to write to sector '0' of hard drive '1' (see attached image)

I am booting the PC from the Acronis True Image 2017 CD.

What can I try?

I've tried to do it with CloneZilla en that is working fine, but takes hours.

Welcome to these User Forums.

The hits that I found for the error message given in your screen image have mainly spoken of a drive that has been used as part of a RAID set / array previously where metadata from that use has been left behind which can cause this error?

The other though here is if your computer BIOS settings have any protection set to prevent writing to sector 0 of a drive?

You could try running the following commands from an Administrator level Command prompt but please ensure that you select the correct disk drive!

diskpart
list disk   (to identify the new drive, i.e. 1)
select disk 1
clean
