Full Backup Taking Forever Acronis True Image 2017

Thread needs solution

I have about 260 G of information from a Windows 10 machine to back up onto an external hard drive formatted in Exfat. The external is connected by cable back to the router, as is the computer being backed up. So there is no wireless involved. This is already day two of the back up and it says that there are about 5 1/2 hours to go. What is wrong? Thanks. Michael

Michael, from the very limited information given here, there is no reason to believe that anything particular is wrong with your backup task, just that it requires a longer time to complete.

You are backing up across a network connection which can introduce some factors that limit the speed of data being processed, plus you don't mention what type of external drive and connection type it is using, i.e. is this a USB 3.0 drive connected to a USB 3.0 port on your router?  If the router only has USB 2.0 ports then a USB 3 drive will only run at USB 2 speeds.

What type of data is involved in your 260GB source, this too can impact on performance as some types of data are already highly compressed (music, videos, photos etc) and therefore cannot be compressed further by ATI and have to be transferred at full size.
