Full disk restore incremental problem
Hello from France,
I'am using Acronis Studio 2017
I made a full back up followed by several incremental backups.
I have to restore entire disk .
I try to restore it including the last incremental backup.
Before explain my (complex) problem in details my question is
How is made the link between the incrementals and the full back up ?
The file's naming is it used by the restore program ?
Is it a pointer at the trail of each .tib ?
If yes can I see this pointer ?
I want to know what are the necessary files to complete my entire restore.
After different attempts I only succeded a restore only with the full backup but nothing with incrementals.
Best Regards
Thanks for your help
Daniel

Steve ,
Thanks a lot for your answer in a very short time.
My Problem is :
When I received Acronis True Image 2017 I created a first save for all my PC with incremental s.
The full backup started and increments had been created.
The target for *.tib files was an wd home cloud with 3 TB.
I realize that it may take a long time if all my PC included all the devices connected to my PC. (perhaps It was wrong?) My PC had only one system disk of 1T .
So, I created a new save with only disk and partitions of the system disk.
And some incremental s save had been created quite every month (excepted where I was not at home and the PC was power off).
The first save was made in September 2017 .
In December 2017 I changed the target for *tib files and other directory on the same device. (an other mistake ?)
In February 2018 after a last incremental save (not a full save an other mistake) I try to install Ubuntu with dual boot on my w10 PC (colossal mistake).
when I tried to restore I was unable to restore from the last incremental
(message : Cannot find version x. You may have moved or delete it :please click browse and specify its location or ignore this message)
So I tried some different tests in vain with different *.tib.
The only successful thing was a restore from the full backup
my PC restated with W10 but in .... September state.
Please see *.tib directories
Thank for your help
Daniel

Daniel, thank you for the further information and the screen images of your files.
It is best to keep all the .tib files for the same backup task together in the same folder, as this will make any recovery much easier than having to browse for and find any missing version files.
Looking at your files listing (copied above) there looks to have been some problems when these were being created, which is why the file names are a little confusing.
Seeing _v1-2.tib suggests that there was already another .tib file in the folder with the same _v1 name when the full backup was being created, thus looking at the same for _s4_v1-2.tib later, this happened again later too, so difficult to be certain which actual files are part of the backup version chain here.
See the ATI 2018 User Guide: Backup file naming where it has the note at the end saying:
If you are creating a new backup, and there is already a file with the same name, the program does not delete the old file, but adds to the new file the "-number" suffix, for example, my_documents_inc_b2_s2_v1-2.tib.
I would recommend moving all these C Acer Salon .tib files to be in the same destination folder then try running a Validation for these to see if you are still given any errors about missing version files.
A different approach that you can try if you prefer would be to remove the existing C Acer Salon task from the ATI GUI by using the Delete option. Do Not delete the files for this task, only the task settings!
Once the old task is removed, then use the option to Add existing backup and then select the latest C Acer Salon_inc_b1_s5_v1.tib file (from the folder with all the files together) and add this back into the GUI. You should then be able to click on the Recover option at the top and see what recover dates / times are shown, which reflect the files in the incremental chain.

Steve ,
A big thank-you
My computer was completely restored .
I used the stand alone backup recovery.
Quite 18 hours of elapse time probably due to network time .
As you said the file names are a little confusing because a previous full back up was made in the same target repository .
Two tasks were working simultaneously in the ATI GUI .
In order to restore I used the Stand alone recovery.
The saves were stored in my personal NAS (WD),
I had some problems to indicate the good files names
of my NAS in order to rebuild the backup file's chain.
The window Stand alone recovery was not openly open (not full screen)
I could not click on the identification menu to the NAS. Worst the option was hidden .
Joigned the files I used
Would you be so kind to change the spelling mistake (incremental) in the title of this post ?
Thanks again for your help
Best Regards
Daniel
