Has Acronis put the log function back in 2017

Thread needs solution

I currently have 2016 and it works fine, I do nothing but two full images a week.  I do miss having the log function and being able to add date and time on backup name.  I know, I understand how to tell date and time without it as part of file name, I just thought nice to have.  I miss the log more, did they put the log back into 2017?

Thanks

Jerry

No. No logs in 2017. You can download the MVP logfile viewer https://forum.acronis.com/forum/128710 that has been developed by MVP Ftrpilot.

Thanks, I am using that now for 2016.  Strange they took that out, when the data is really there and available.  Today I had some errors, not serious, it couldn't find my oldest in set to delete.  That was because I had done a restore and it was trying to delete from old data base info.  Some people might want to know that, but if you didn't have Ftrpilot lof file display you wouldn't know.

Hello Jer,

Thank you for your posting! I'm gathering user feedbacks about lacking feature\enhancements in Acronis True Image - added this thread to the feature request too. It would be also helpful if you could send me screenshots of the error messages you get after reverting the system to an earlier point of time. Could you please attach an error message + screenshot of backup archives in Windows Explorer where we could see the names of backup archives created after recovery.

Thank you!

I just got a "Write error", and the UI doesn't give any more details than that. At least, when we could see the log, we could try to figure out what was wrong.

This used to be in the product, was useful, it just seems shameful to remove it.

Mathieu, you can download / use the MVP Log Viewer tool to see all the detail of the log messages.

2018 doesn't quite have a log, but the beta does show that you can easily see the status of each backup by date/time with success or non-success and I'm liking it.

2018 is looking like the application that I've been wanting it to be since the big change to 2015.  The MVP log viewer tool is super nice though and very handy to have indeed!

I found out about the MVP log viewer. It works great once you get over having to download an .exe from some guy's dropbox. I pay for Acronis because I trust the brand, but if I need some dodgy third party software to use it correctly, it defeats the purpose.

Mathieu, the dropbox link I provided was purely a temporary arrangement while the main author (FtrPilot) was away from the forums and the linked tool in the MVP User Tools and Tutorials location shown in the Useful Links section was to a downlevel version.

The MVP Log Viewer tool is fully endorsed by Acronis and not any dodgy third party software!

We would all rather have Acronis put back this function in the main ATIH GUI as an integrated feature instead of needing to have the MVP's produce this!

I agree it is definitely not dodgy. Major updates to the log viewer are tested by a small group of MVPs to make sure there are no unexpected issues. The same goes for the recovery media builder.

If Acronis gave decent error messages instead of "Backup failed", we wouldn't be having this discussion. If it had said "Backup failed because the requested disk quota", we wouldn't be here.

The log viewer made it easier to figure out, because you could get to it from the "Backup failed" message, but that was already kind of a band-aid on the first problem.

If you stay on this forum for very long you will find out that FtrPilot  is not just "some guy".  Neither are the other MVPs.  As with any large, complicated product, the Acronis products have a small group of very knowledgeable and helpful users recognized by both customers and the vendor as a very valuable resource.  These are the MVPs.  They can be trusted.

Click on Tools >>> third-party tools in the main GuI, it will take you to a KB article where you can get the tool as well.

Sorry for the horrible screenshot - it is not rendering very well when pasted in directly and the attach files option is missing in the forum now :(

Here is the KB article link:
