Help - Cloning Windows 10 from 64GB SSD to 240GB SSD - Partition Issues

Thread needs solution

Hi I am bashing my head against the wall at the moment.

My son's computer was running out of space with its 64GB so I thought I'd just get a 240GB SSD and clone it across therefore getting more space.

I cloned it but when viewed the 240GB was showing as the same size as the original SSD.

How do I make it so that the full space is avaliable to add more programs to rather than just being a "Recovery Partition" that cannot be accessed?

Or is it a case of that I am really thick and I am missing a trick here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Andrew,

When you get to the Move method step of the Clone Disk Wizard you need to select Proportional which will transfer the contents of the disk in a manner which will fill all avaiable space on the new (target) disk. See the link below:

You should also be able to extend the volume in Windows to use the rest of the disk.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/resize-a-partition-for-fre…

In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Extend Volume” from the menu.

On this screen, you can specify the amount that you want to increase the partition by. (take the full amount)

Note that the extend partition feature only works with contiguous space.
