how to backup with TI2017 a Hitachi hard drive with bulk data encryption

Thread needs solution

How do I backup a Hitachi hard drive with bulk data encryption. It is not password protected but I have been told it still encrypts the data. If I do a sector by sector backup with TI2017 and restore to another drive won't it restore the encrypted data? If the drive I am restoring to does not have encryption what will happen?

Bill, if your Hitachi drive encrypts your data stored on it, then ATIH 2017 cannot back it up unless that data is presented to the application as if it is not encrypted.

Even doing a sector by sector backup of an encrypted drive is unlikely to be successful as some of that data may present as if it is bad sectors or other invalid data and be omitted.

In a nutshell, while the OS is running and active, it is "unencrypted".  You would need to take your backups then.  You'll not be able to take an offline backup of that encrypted disk.

That online backup though, will restore just fine - it will be "unencrypted' when restored but you can encrypt it again.  Things like bitlocker would start encrypting it automatically if it was turned on in settings at the time the backup was taken.

And when you create the backup task you should also encrypt it.

Correct - encrypt the backup with an Acronis backup password.  Then it doesn't matter that your "online' backups, which are unencrypted at that time, are unencrypted, because Acronis protects those files with your own password and encrypts the backup files.
