How can I restore Files out of a NonStop Backup?
I store my NonStop Data in the Acronis Secure Zone, but how can I retrieve or restore it? In the User Manual is only descriped how to build up a NonStop Task, but nothing about how to restore the data. Neither in the Acronis task symbol nor in the acronis program is anything more than stop or switch off NonStop.
I remember in former ATI Versions it was also possible, to rebuild the ASZ in regards to delete older data. Restore NonStop normaly opens a time scale and I can decide which file from which date I like to restore. So what happened in 2017?

That's exactly the point, Steve, there is nothing! I can see on top when the last backup was started und next is Nonstop. The bottom is blank except the break bottom.

Bernd, very strange...! I will have a go at setting up a test on one of my less used computers and see if I see the same problem!

Bernd, I see the same as your screen image on my own system with a NSB to the ASZ with no obvious way of how to recover any of the files or folders being backed up!
I will play around with this some more to see if I can discover anything here?
Another strange thing is that nothing is shown in the ASZ for the NSB backup image - ASZ says it is Empty.

The good thing is, Steve, that we both can reprodruce the situation. Now we only need a solution. Do you have also a Win7 64 Bit system?
In parallel I have asked the German Forum Section in regards to this error. Also I will change the settings and try to store NonStop on an external HD. Lets see.

Bernd, my test system is Windows 10 64-bit with the ASZ on an external WD MyBook drive.
This problem reminds me why I don't like or use the ASZ...!!
For information, I booted from my USB WinPE Rescue Media and was able to Recover some folders from the NSB backup in the ASZ from that offline media to a new location.
I am not sure if this problem is specific to using the ASZ as the target for NSB, or if this is a problem with NSB generally, or a problem using NSB for a Files & Folders type backup?

Bernd, further update - I deleted my ASZ partition and created a normal NTFS partition in the same space giving it drive letter N: then deleted NSB and created a new NSB backup to the new N: partition.
Now I have an option button to Recover Files shown as expected, so this issue is because of using ASZ as the target!
Another plus point of using a normal NTFS drive is that I can now see and explore the Time Explorer Storage folder which is now showing on my N: drive!

This is interesting, Steve. The good old and simple Acronis Backup Programm which you can start from CD or via F11 worked always fine. I'm surprised, that you found anything in your ASZ even when the NonStop was not working.
I set up a new NonStop Backup onto an external HD and it also worked well and I have now an option for recovery. Something confused me still. I selected 50GB of Data, but later in the Acronis GUI, in the binder, it showes 112,5GB. The Backup File on the ext. HD contains also the whole binder with 112 GB. Tha meens, independend of the subfolders Acronis ignored it and always uses the komplete folder. Very strange! I will now increase the external HD to the same size like the ASZ.

Bernd, when booted from the USB WinPE Rescue Media I could see 'Time Explorer Storage' as a folder in the mounted ASZ folder and then cryptic folder names (looks like the names shown in the log files or Windows COA key names).
I only selected a single folder for the NSB task test and it included everything in that folder so you may need to play with the Exclusions settings (if these are available - they were on a Disks & Partitions NSB task when I looked at that first - didn't check on the Files & Folders task).
NSB states in the documentation that it will use the total space available on the target drive or partition for storage!

Hi Steve,
I have increased the size on my ext. HD partition to the same size as the ASZ (200GB). NSB runs fine untill today.
Now I overwrite this space on the ext. HD and created an ASZ with exactly the same size of 200GB. And - I have that damned problem again. So to me, the trouble is the ASZ but I don't know why. Anyway, I have now deleted the ASZ on my internal HD and created a normal NTFS partition out of it. With this, NSB runs fine and I leave it like it is.
Thanks for your help, Steve, and lots of greetings from Hamburg (Germany)

Hello Bernd, Steve,
I think you both have the build 5554 of Acronis True Image 2017. A number of issues with Acronis Secure Zone (ASZ) and Nonstop backup has been fixed since v5554 was published in September. Abilty to browse and recover data from Nonstop backup in ASZ is one of them. When the next update comes out in several weeks, you could use Nonstop backup in ASZ normally. Owners of subscription licenses can already do that - the build 6116 ("New Generation") has the fix too.
Regards,
Slava

Slava, many thanks for confirming that this is a known bug with the ASZ in build 5554 (which I was using for the test but which actually shows as 5555 because of the patch applied). I don't normally use the ASZ so not a problem for me be a useful reference for users who do use it. I have 6116 on another computer if I need to do something that needs the ASZ.
