Kudos for True Image and the MVPs'

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I attempted to install the Creators Update on my Dell Vostro laptop using the Upgrade Assistant. It took about 1/12 hours to do the install and when it was all done I had no internet connection and nothing I did allowed me to connect to the internet. I found the answer here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking…. Thanks MIcrosoft for bug that affects the Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated NIC. Disabling the adapter will allow wireless to work, but I elected to roll back to the previous Windows insatllation uisng Settings--UPdate and Security-->Recovery-->Go Back to an earlier build. The recovery partially worked but there were still other issues with my machine.

It was time to recover from the backups I make each night. I booted up the MVP-WINPE recovery usb and recovered the most recent image to get my laptop back on track.

A big thanks to True Image 2017 B8041 and the hard work by the MVPs' that successfully allowed me to restore my machine. No Creators update for me. I did find some workarounds to allow wireless connection after disabling the Broadcom adapter in BIOS. I have not gone back to try this. I will wait patiently until MS pushes it out, hopefully with a the fix included.

Thomas, thanks for sharing your experience with upgrading to the Creators Update for Windows 10 - I suspect that we will have a lot more users coming to the forums as this is rolled out more widely over the next days, weeks and months, and I am sure that there are lots of Broadcom adapters out there waiting to find this MS bug.

Well done for having a backup to go back to and glad to hear that using the MVP WINPE USB stick was successful to allow you to recover back to the earlier version.

Thomas,

I had a similar experience with the Win10 Creators Update.  A somewhat old, special HP photo printing program now fails to display the final preview of the expected print.  That view was a pop up from the original pgm that now fails to execute.  Of course, Win10 tried to give options but nothing seemed to work....  It is an old program that allows the user to specify a photo print size of  3.80" x 5.80" with  a .20" white border and then print 3 photos  on a single 8.5" x 11" paper.   I have been totally unsuccessful in finding a replacement program that will do that.

Then comes my reliance on Acronis... all smiles.. Popped out that disk, slid in the spare, restored the OS backup taken just prior to the Creators Update and viola, the program works... Just restored my data from  the "D:" partition backup (on the same disk) with TIH and I'm back in business.

Now, All I have to worry about is HOW TO PREVENT Microsoft from updating my current "Pre-Creators Update" C: drive ... I want security updates and updates for the MS Office suite etc.. but definitely not the Creators update part that stopped my special photo printing program from working properly...

So, I'll join you in the KUDO's to Acronis and all those fantastic MVP's and others that always seem to be here to help us in time of disaster !

I cannot tell you how many times I have received assistance right here in this forum... SO...THANK YOU to them !

For those with Windows 10 Pro or better, it is easy to defer the upgrades with the Policy Editor. For those with the Home version... Microsoft has taken control of your machine. I always use Pro versions of Windows.

Whenever possible I go for the Pro version. Unfortunately many Notbooks come with Home version with no option to get them with Pro. Our Dell's only have home. An Microsoft demands an obscene amount to upgrade (at least that is the case in Australia). Most of my DeskTop are hand crafted and have the Pro version.
