M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD RAID drive not detected by Acronis Bootable Media
I have a Dell XPS 9550, which has a PCIe NVMe SSD drive in either AHCI or RAID configuration. The RAID configuration is not detected by Acronis Bootable Media (Acronis True Image or Acronis Universal Restore).

Can I create the recovery media on a different computer? Or must I create it on the same Dell XPS 9550 so gets the drivers from the system? I say that because Windows 10 iso installed allows to load drivers from a different location, so I can put the folder "64bit Intel RSTe AHCI & RAID drivers v15.7.1.1015 WHQL" directly inside the pendrive and select it.

The MVP tool has the drivers available. During creation you will be asked if you would like to add drivers, answer Yes and the RAID drivers will be added automatically.

I've downloaded the Google Drive files, but apparently doesn't work.
I run "MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v111\MVP_ATIPEBuilder.exe" and get a command prompt window, then closes and nothing happens:

Please download and read the Read_me and Change log docs, from the link I provided for usage instructions. Your problem is that you need to download and install with Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit prior to running the tool. The Read_me will explain how.

Ok ISO was finally created with custom AHCI & RAID drivers. However, when I was asked to create a bootable pendrive I entered E> instead of E: and said:
Syntax is not correct.
And just closed without option to retry. In any case I used Rufus to record the iso to the pendrive.
The problem with "winpe.wim does NOT exist." happened because I had installed ADK with the Windows configured in a different language, then I switched to english so probably the en-US folder was missing.

Sounds correct. I assume you can now see the drive in your computer?
- Log in to post comments

Yes now I can see "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86\en-US\winpe.wim". In any case the MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v111 bootable ISO is a pain in the ass so use, and these are just examples of why:
- The utility to build the iso fails if I enter incorrectly the letter of the pendrive which I want to make bootable. Finally figured out to do it with Rufus, you have to choose MBR partition for BIOS or UEFI if you want it to boot on the Dell XPS 15, with Secure Boot disabled.
- I'm not sure what's Acronis Universal Restore for. Once I enter it from recovery doesn't allow to restore anything, just options which I don't know what are for.
- The restoration does not allow me to do from backup disk to physical disk. Instead it forces me to select individually where it will go each partition, and I have to choose already existing partition. Doesn't allow me to "clone" to a disk from a disk inside the image.
- It uses Acronis True Image 2016 instead of 2017. Not sure if it will cause incompatibilities or unknown problem if I made the backup with True Image 2017 new generation.
- Clicking on a disk property makes TueImage.exe crash:
Tooltip: TrueImage.exe - Application Error
An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction.
(0xc000001d) occurred in the application at location 0x00007FF982BB8920.
Click on OK to terminate the program.
I'm a little bit tired of this Windows nonsense, I think I'll switch to macOS. I don't want to be forced to be a computer technician and software developer each time I want to perform a simple user task.

Building an ISO with Rufus will not get you where you want to go. The Universal Restore Utility is only used when restoring a backup image from one computer to a different computer.
Did you read the readme instructions for the MVP tool? Many users have been in the same place you are now and have had success with using the MVP tool to create a WinPE based True Image boot media to work with their Dell Machines.

This is what I'm trying to do, restore from a Sony to a Dell, but the Universal Restore option does not appear in the recovery step. In this video does:

That video link was created for Acronis 2014 and is no longer applicable to the current product. Now that you have finally stated what it is that you are trying to do maybe we can get there.
I recommend that you first create the WinPE based media as instructed in the Read_me file for the MVP tool. Note that the Windows True Image application must be installed on the computer so that the MVP tool can access the Acronis Media Creation tool to create the media. You will need to build another media with the Universal Restore app on it. You will use the Media builder in the tools section of the application to build that media. Download and install of the Universal Restore app is required as well.
Once the media is successfully created use it to create a backup of the Sony machine. Once you have that backup created use the WinPE media to boot the Dell machine and restore the backup to that machine.
Once the backup has been restored to the machine shutdown the computer, remove the WinPE media and attach the Universal Restore media, start the computer and boot to the Universal Restore app. Run the Universal Restore app and choose not to add drivers when prompted. The app should generalize the needed drivers required for booting the restored drive and allow the machine to boot to the restored disk drive.
Once the machine is booting to the installed disk drive you can install updated drivers through Windows

I'm trying first to restore the Sony backup to the Dell computer, but as I said, it doesn't allow me to restore a drive inside the image file to an entire physical drive, instead forces me to restore partition-to-partition which does not apply because the partition layout is different.
Besides that, I don't understand why can't put True Image and Universal Restore inside the same rescue iso. I need two?

I'm not understanding you now. The recovery media will allow you to select all partitions of a disk image to restore to another disk. The app is smart enough to know where the partitions go on disk. Selecting all partitions is done by ticking the box above left of the partition list.
Yes, you need 2 media's because you are using 2 apps. True Image to restore the image and Universal Restore to generalize the recovered disk image

I've got two errors when making the custom iso on the Dell (on the Sony works, but on the Dell not). First, the iso is not generated, It's not located where it says it is:
Acronis_amd64.iso is located in
"C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\02)_User_Tools\ATI_PE_BUILDER\Advanced\MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v111\MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v111\ISO"
Second, when trying to create a bootable USB flash drive it fails probably because the iso is missing?:
Enter USB flash drive letter with colon (like F:):E:
WARNING, ALL DATA ON DISK DRIVE E: WILL BE LOST!
Proceed with Format [Y,N]?Y
Formatting E:...
ERROR: Failed to format "E:"; DiskPart errorlevel -2147212243.
If you can put True Image and Disk Director in a single bootable USB, why can't you add also Universal Restore? I'm sure you can.

Does not allow me to recover a Disk inside the image > entire disk in the hard drive. For what I've tested, it only does that when inside the TIB image is one disk, but in my case there are 3.
But the major problem now, is that can't create the ISO using the Windows inside the Dell, I want to do it from here so it already includes all the proper drivers so are included into Universal Restore.

Another issue present:
This time I made the ISO from the Sony, and added to custom drivers x64 the ones backed up from the Dell with DriverBackup! open source app.
Acronis Recovery does not load, just shows an orange picture with vertical lines and the cursor blinking on the corner.

Ok at least thanks for trying but it doesn't help me.

invertez, I have come late to this party so sorry if I am repeating some of what Bob (Enchantech) has already said to you.
First, before you worry about restoring a backup image from one type of hardware (Sony?) to different hardware (Dell?), you need to first create and test the Rescue Media to get this working, ideally on both systems if possible.
Personally, I stopped creating CD/DVD type optical rescue media some while back - all of my systems will boot from a USB stick (formatted as FAT32 - minimum size 1GB, max 32GB) and using a USB stick is a whole lot more flexible / easier than optical media.
In this case, from what I understand of your configuration which includes RAID, then you need to create the MVP WinPE Rescue Media, which you should have installed the Windows 10 ADK for in order to have the broadest range of support for your hardware devices.
When booting from this Rescue Media, then this needs to be done in the same mode as used by your Windows OS, i.e. if this is a UEFI system, then choosing the UEFI option for the device where the rescue media is loaded, i.e. UEFI USB port with the stick connected.
There is no need to include loads of device drivers for either Sony or Dell on the MVP Rescue Media at this point. The only key drivers that you may need (if any) would be those for the new Chipset (motherboard drivers) and for the SATA controller, but this will be prompted when you run Universal Restore on the new hardware AFTER you have successfully restore the backup image from the old hardware to this computer.
When it comes to backing up the old hardware - if you have multiple disks installed in that old computer, then please make separate backups, one per disk. This will avoid the issues you have described with being forced into partition by partition mode on restore, especially as you are wanting to restore only one disk from the backup in the first place.

Hmm Acronis Treu image is not is not so user-friendly.
Is there a user manual for dummies.
