McAfee Disk Encrption causing corrupt backups

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image 2017, build 8058 (the latest).  It has worked wonderfully until my company decided to enable McAfee's disk encryption.  Now the backup fails with an error "The backup is corrupted".  When I try to validate the backup, it fails with the same error.

I have tried backing up the entire disk and just a few directories, neither method resolved the issue.

If I try to search for a file in the backup, the following error codes are presented:

   0x006400CC+0x0064023C+0x01E50005+0x01E50015+0x01E5001A+0x0004000E

Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation?

I don't want to upgrade to 2018 unless it fixes this issue.

Thank you for your time.

Alex, welcome to these User Forums.

Where has McAfee's disk encryption been enabled in this scenario?
Is this on the Source or Destination disk used by the ATI 2017 backup task?

I doubt that ATI 2018 would offer any solution to this issue given it has been introduced by enabling this disk encryption software.

See KB 56619: Acronis True Image: compatibility with BitLocker - this is dealing with a different encryption product but the principle remains the same for other such products.  ATI can only backup an encrypted drive if the encryption is unlocked or suspended, i.e. the drive does not appear to be encrypted to ATI.  The same holds true for an encrypted destination drive.

Does Acronis have a file by file backup feature where the backup decision is based on the archive bit or some other meta-data?  If this is possible, then the choice of file to backup would be independent of the encryption.

Alex, you can do a Files & Folders type of backup but I do not believe that it references the archive bit for the decision of what to include.  Acronis has not published the actual algorithm they use for these decisions.

Encryption needs to be 'invisible' to ATI for it to work through it otherwise it will object.
