MMS errors

Thread needs solution

What exactly is the MMS service, and why would I want it running?

Looking at the MMS logs, I'm getting constant errors like this...

2017-03-06 17:39:18:629 620 E01530001: Error 0x1530001: An error has occurred while obtaining the location information.
| trace level: error
| line: 0x242a82eb7238abaf
| file: k:\8029\products\imager\home\managers\impl\location_manager\location_manager_impl.cpp:138
| function: TrueImage::Managers::LocationManagerImpl::GetLocationInfo
| $module: ti_managers_vs_8029
|
| error 0x260001: The given URI is empty.
| line: 0xea40b4277fbfb9ee
| file: k:\8029\common\uri\uri.cpp:122
| function: `anonymous-namespace'::ParseUri
| $module: ti_managers_vs_8029

Why would it be referencing a file on k:\8029...? I don't have such a drive. All the errors seem to reference k:

Would it hurt to disable the service?

Havent' seen an update for 2017, but the services for 2016 are listed:  MMS is used for the family dashboard. If you don't use it, you can safely stop and set the service to "disabled" in computer management >>>> services.

56697: Acronis True Image 2016: Services and Processes

Service name Purpose
Acronis Nonstop Backup Service (afcdp) Performs Nonstop Backup for partitions
Acronis Scheduler2 Service (AcrSch2Svc) Task scheduling for Acronis True Image
Acronis Sync Agent Service (syncagentsrv) Performs Synchronization
Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini Communicates with Family Dashboard

AS for the specific error message, you can probalby ignore it.  NOthing stands out, but I couldn't tell you all the error codes - some of them are specifically for the developers.  If you really wanted, you could open a support case to try and find out more.

As for Acronis and services running - In most cases, you can disable all that you don't want or need.  We have put together some .bat scripts to help automate turning them on and off as you see fit (pick the ones you want), if you feel like it.  Otherwise, you can do this manually from computer management - the scripts just give a a one-click way to stop, start, enable and/or disable them as well.  Links for the MVP Google Drive are listed below.
