Must Acronis Run All the Time?
Can I close ATI17 after the backup is complete or do I have to leave it open? Will it automatically open as needed to perform scheduled backups?
Sorry, couldn't find this in the FAQ list.
Thanks,
Chris

All of my backups run between 2am and 6am. When I reboot my computer at times outside of this window I get a message that Acronis True Image 2017 is running and it will take 2 minutes for a restart. My question is why is Acronis running at these times of day? I have often noticed that my internet is sometimes sluggish despite 100 Mbs documented transfer speed. Am I on some kind of peer to peer network? Also to my knowledge I have no cloud services. Anyway I am not paying for them. Please let me know why your program needs to run at times when no backup is scheduled. Thank you.

William, welcome to these user forums.
ATIH 2017 should only give you the message that it is running when it is actually running - this was a problem on shutdown with some earlier releases but fixed in the 2017 version.
It is possible that you have backup tasks that have become 'queued' but without more information it would be difficult to tell you if that is so or not?
I would recommend downloading / using the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature) and look at the task logs to see if these indicate that any backups are being cancelled at the times when you are wanting to restart the computer.
Also please ensure that you are using the latest build for ATIH 2017, either 8053 for the Standard version, or 6206 for the New Generation / Premium version.

All my backups run in am. At approx 1:30 pm caught it using 25% of my i7 cpu time. Why is it doing this. Not much that I run outside of games uses this much cpu time. Again, am I on some peer to peer system? My browser is slugish when this happens and sometimes crashes. I think that this happens a lot. Actually it is happening now at 2:20 pm. This should stop. A reply is appreciated. Springfield / IL / USA

William, please see the Useful Links in the right column of the Forum and then click on MVP User Tools - Google Drive which will take you to where a number of useful tools can be found, including Common BAT Scripts which you can use to stop and start these Acronis Services.
You can edit any of these batch files in Notepad to tailor them to your specific needs and only start those that are essential to your situation. In practise the only essential service is the Schedul2 service - all the others can be stopped / disabled if needed.

I went to run ATIH17 and there was an update available. After I installed it the CPU percentage dropped to 2%. I found however that my data partition had not been backed up (who knows for how long). I tried to back it up manually but got a message that said that there was not enough storage available. I have been partitioning my hard drive for years. I have Paragon's Hard Disk Manager. When I installed ATIH I partitioned the entire 1 Terabyte drive to be a True Image Secure Zone. As you can see this partition has changed. I did not do it. If a program cannot backup a System(C) partition daily what good is it?
Mr. Smith, I know that you are a volanteer and I appreciate you helping me but I need to get this fixed. Thans you for you help.

Here is another one. As you can see ATIH is not doing its job.

William, did you download the MVP Log Viewer tool and if so, what is being shown in the task logs for these backups?
Personally I do not use ASZ and stopped doing so some time back after problems it gave me. I just create my own dedicated Acronis backup partition for my backups where I have much more control.

I ran the standalone log viewer and the list said "data file is corrupt" nothing else. Also, Acronis keeps moving itself to the top of my UEFI boot order and restart aborts when it cannot find the disk. Will have to repartition HD and edit all of the partition backups. Also, got the "Acronis is busy wait 2 minutes when I restarted the computer. This program is a pain. Thanks for you help.

I suggest that you delete the Acronis Secure Zone. It adds complexity and is not needed. You may write backups to a normal disk or partition.
Did you also enable Acronis Startup Recovery Manager?
Where is your backup destination? Is it a second internal drive?
And, to answer your question, no, ATI does not use a peer-to-peer network.

I agree that Acronis Secure Zone is not the best way to implement a backup strategy using ATI. I have found that 1TB vanishes quickly, even when the drive being backed-up has only 60gig of files to backup and auto-cleanup. My prefered backup location is my Synology NAS, with secondary backup to Acronis Cloud. Complemented by backup to USB HDD and separate file synchronisation across multiple computers.
