NAS Authentication Problem

Thread needs solution

I am using a Freenas Server for backups and I have it setup to not need authentication. I've been accessing it thru a mapped drive using True Image 2016. Now after upgrading to TI 2017 it requires a User and Password in order to access the share. Is there a way around this or do I have to reconfigure the server to require authentication.

There's a bug in the current 2017 5554 release with authtenticating to a NAS (even an open when) when shares are mapped in Windows already.  You can apply the 5555 hotfix and/or try stopping and starting the workstation service when initially creating a backup task or editing an existing one... to the NAS, when mapped drives are in play. This should be fixed in the next update (not sure when that will be though).

Rodger,

What version of FreeNAS are you running?  If you are running a version which has SAMBA version 4.0 or higher and your Windows machine(s) are using SMB 3 or 2 I recommend that you configure the server so that your backup shares are in a seperate User account requiring log on.  Doing so will help protect the root account of the base server OS from outside attack from malware and unauthorized access.

You can use the guide in the link below to correctly setup SMB shares on your FreeNAS server.

check your windows permissions for the share. i needed to edit the permissions in properties (right click the mapped network drive in windows to allow write authority)
