Need Help Recovering Files From External Drive

Thread needs solution

I recently did a full backup to and external hard drive.

I had to replace my computer's hard drive, so I now have a fresh new clean computer drive.

I have been going through re-installing programs, etc and now I want to go and retrieve files from my hard drive (not programs)

I open the external drive files and the backup files are there, but when I click on them, windows needs a program to open them.

How do I retrieve my files (not programs) from my external drive??

You must have True Image installed in Windows on your PC so that the integration of the application with Windows explorer is in place so that Explorer knows how to access the .tib files.  You could also do this using the Recovery Media but would be less user freindly

Thanks....I have True Image installed, and my external backup is there.

When I click to recover files, I can't navigate the files. For example, I had all of my pictures in the Microsoft Image viewer program (it may be called Windows Image Viewer)

I can't find my pictures

Normally pictures are saved in the Users Pictrures folder and not in the Image application itself.  Have a look at your User folders for your files.

OK.....I think I found them......let's see if this works

Thanks so much.....I may have another question or two, but this is a good start

I found my pictures and recovered a few to my desktop for a test.

When I try to open a picture, it tells me "windows photo viewer can't open the picture, because I don't have permission to access file location"

Sound like your making good progress.
