No wireless network cards / support detected in Linux based USB Rescue Bootmedia

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have created, using the standard procedure, an Linux based Acronis Bootable USB stick. So far so good, is booting and working. But on different laptops no wireless support is existing and the wireless network cards are simply not detected. Based on the documentation and an weekend Google searching and reading I still don't have any clue why this is not working, even on different types of hardware.

The strange thing is that I had an trial version of the Acronis Bootable Rescue medium in the 2016 version. In this version both the embedded network cards and the wireless network cards where detected. It was especially this particular function that made me led to the decission to buy a full 5 - licence pack version of the Acronis True Image 2017 edition. And now that particular function is not working in this full 2017 version and I am sure that it was working in the 2016 trial version.

Any one had the same experience? Any one has an solution for this?
Could it be an new kernel / driver Linux reason which is the different between the 2017 and 2016 version. Unfortunaly I don't have an full 2016 Bootable USB stick so I can not try and it is also not for sale anymore. Disappointed about this.

I've tried this on two different laptops of HP brand, the Probook 6550b and the Probook 650G1.

Duke, welcome to these user forums.

Please see KB document: 1537: Acronis Bootable Media which has details of the different Linux kernel versions that Acronis employs in the different versions of bootable media.

It is quite likely that the 2017 media has been updated to use a later Linux kernel but the KB document hasn't been updated to show this yet.

Support for integrated (non-wireless) network cards is normally good in the rescue media but support for wireless cards is a different story.  I haven't personally had this working for any of my systems with wireless cards with either the Linux or the Windows PE versions of the media, but in reality, it hasn't been a high priority as do backups from within Windows where wireless support is fine, and would use a network cable if booting from rescue media to have the best reliability and speed.

If this is a real issue for you then you can always ask for a full refund for your ATIH 2017 product if you are within 30 days of purchase, or else open a Support Case with Acronis Support and see what they can do for you.

Duke, see also forum post: 126974: Guide to Creating 32 or 64 Bit WinPE Recovery Media with WiFi Support which deals with this subject.

Duke, if you submit a ticket through this form, you could also ask for a downgrade to the 2016 version, if you remember it working well on your computers.

Regards,

Slava
