"Old" 2017 version discontinued?

Thread needs solution

Simple question: Will I still receive updates for the initial 2017 version or do I have to switch to NG?

Wondering the same thing?

Defuitely NOT discontinued.

In another post Ekaterina advised that they are working on a new build of ATI 2017 perpetural and if I recall correctly, it is about a month away.

It is my understanding that eventually the same installer will be used by for perpetual version and subscription versions.

Hi all,
Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation is a Premium Subscription, that exists together with Acronis True Image 2017 perpetual license and Acronis True Image 2017 Subscription and offers additional features, not available in Standard editions. So, all three editions will be maintained and updated equally.

Thanks for the official response Ekaterina.

I purchased the premium (subscription) in December and received the email offering a free upgrade to True Image subscription. I have been reluctant to install it having seen reports of problems that some users have encountered. How easy (or difficult) is it to disable the new features or roll back the version if I do encounter the same problems?

Most, if not all, of the reported issues are related to the malware protection module, which can be turned off and on in setting (just one setting needs to be changed). So you can get the benefit of the many tweaks in build 6116 without the problems that may arise due to malware protection. It is quite possible you will have no problems with malware protection. I only had issues with 2 out of 4 PC on which I have tested it.

Thanks Ian, That's what I was hoping to hear.

Just to clarify: If I have Premier Build 5555 I just install right over it

Harry

Yes just install build 6116 (premium) and it will upgrade the version. I think a reboot may be required after the installation finishes ... cannot be sure.

Ian.  What happens if I install Premium v6116 on top of Perpetual v5554?  Does the Perpetual become a Subscription?!  Thanks

I suspect you will get "invalid licence number" when Acronis validates with the server.

I inatalled the latest 2017 v 21.0.6116.  My first issue was that on rebooting the computer, the NTLDR error came up, which I have never had before.  I needed to push f8 to reselect the boot drive.  This happens when ever I restart or do a cold boot on the computer, so something has changed here.  The second issue is that the default printer settings changed and needed to be returned to normal.  I have not tested other issues, but in general my entire 8.1 64 bit pro system is running much slower on start up and shut down, and it takes longer for several of my programs to load.  How do I go about correcting this short of going back to the old version?  I am not a social network person, so I don't access Facebook, Snapchat, etc.

Thanks for the assistance,

Denny

It looks like the system has lost the setting for the boot disk. What you need to do is to shut down the system. The restart the system and go into the UEFI/BIOS and change the default boot device.

The quick solution to the performance issues is to start ATI 2017 and select settings, and disable malware protection. A less extreme solution is to add programs that are particularly sluggish to the white-list (under ATI 2017 settings, click on "Mange permissions lsit..." click on "add" and then navigate to the executable file that you wish to exclude.

Since I have Malwarebytes Pro on my system, which I have set up to scan every nite, disabling the malware provision seems to be a non productive thing to do.  I think that I would like to go back to my standard edition.  If I do so, do I need to delete all the backups that were done on the 21.0.6116 build.  It seems as though when a version changes (I use single version backups) the prior backup is not deleted.  How do I get around this issue.

Thanks

Denny

Dennis, if you go back to the earlier backup version (build 5554?) I would still expect that the backups you created with build 6116 should still be usable but you should check this after reverting by exploring the contents via File Explorer.

If you are saying that the automatic cleanup actions stopped working correctly after upgrading to 6116, then I would suggest doing an uninstall and then a clean install of the earlier version - using the Acronis Cleanup Tool inbetween the two actions.  You will need to recreate your backup tasks after doing the clean install.  Link for the cleanup tool in my signature below.

If you have a backup of the OS drive from before the upgrade, you could restore the following folders back from that backup to get back how ATIH worked at that point.

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\   Scripts & Database folders.  Scripts holds your task configuration files, whilst Database holds the task history information.

Bit of confusion here. I was only suggesting turning off Acronis malware protection.

I very much appreciate all your input into this issue.  I have successfully uninstalled, run the cleanup utility, and installed the regular 2017 version.  I must say that my system in now much more responsive than it was with 21.0.6116.

Thanks again,

Denny

Denny, glad to hear the positive feedback and update.

Thank you all for reporting issues with printing and overall performance degradation primarily caused by the Active Protection module. We are investigating them. Get in contact with us through the form http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html, and in addition to that (not in place), you can use "Send feedback" form to send your message.
