Old backup are not deleted.

Thread needs solution

Hello.

I have a problem on 2 PCs (Windows 10, ATI 2017 and ATI 2016).

The oldest versions of backups are not automatically deleted, and quotas are no longer respected.

On one of the PCs, the problem appeared after replacing the USB stick with a larger one.

I did assign the same letter, I even deleted the backup job and recreated it.

On one PC, after each backup Acronis indicates in the log sent by email: "Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking 'Browse for backup' and recreate the backup settings."

On the other PC, Acronis sents an email when the external drive becomes full.

I enclose the scripts of the backup tasks.

Thanks for your help.

Stéphane.

Stéphane, the task script files do not really offer much help for the situation described here, this is where the actual backup log files would be better suited to try to show what is happening?

First, please check the automatic cleanup settings for your backup tasks and check that they are still set correctly as you expect them to be and have not been disabled?

For the PC where you have changed the storage USB drive, please try creating a new task with a unique name that hasn't been used before and see if this will work correctly for you?

Note: as you are using older versions of ATI with 2016 & 2017, check what file system your new USB drive is using.  If it has exFAT then you would need to reformat it to use NTFS to work with your older ATI versions.

Hi Steve and thanks for your help :-)

I did what you suggested to me. I checked (on the only PC to which I have access this evening), the quota setting. This is in line with my expectations.

I also just noticed that on my own PC (with ATI 2019), I have 3 backups kept for a quota of 7 ! I think I deleted some extra backups over a month ago, and ATI has been a bit lost since ...

As for the USB keys, they are well formatted in NTFS.

Stéphane, did you delete some backups outside of ATI by using Explorer?

If so, then this can cause issues because it leaves information behind in the internal database used by ATI to track the files it has created.

There are two options to try:

  1. Validate the backup task and if any errors are shown via pop-ups, then take the Ignore option if offered, else the Cancel option - for each error.

  2. Force the database to be rebuilt as per KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings instructions.

Hi Steve.

Thank you for your help :-)

On my PC (with ATI 2019), I tried the 2 options you suggested to me.
Without any success : I ran the backup manually over and over again. The number of backups increased and became larger than the quota of 7 backups. I stopped at 9 backups.

Then I ran the "cleanup" of the versions. There were only 4 versions. So I manually deleted the 5 extra backups so that the “versions” (in ATI) and the backups (on the external hard drive) are the same.
Since then the quota has been reached, and now a new backup erases the oldest one.

The problem is therefore solved on my PC :-)

I'll tell you about the other 2 PCs.

Thank you :-)

Stéphane
