recover

Thread needs solution

I am trying to recover my C drive, all I get are requests for a version. 1,2,3,4 none of which work. If I can't get this fixed fast I am off to to something else.

I am using 2017, last full back up was on 12/6

Thomas, welcome to these user forums.

The fact that you are being asked for various different versions suggests that you are attempting to recover your C: drive by starting this from within Windows using the installed Acronis application.

When you do this, Acronis looks at the information in its Database where it stores information on your backup task history and what files have been created.  These messages occur when files have been deleted via Windows Explorer instead of using the Automatic Cleanup rules for the task.

The next problem with starting from within Windows is that Acronis will have to modify the Windows boot configuration in order to create a temporary Linux environment from which to perform the recovery.  This may or may not work for your computer depending on how well your BIOS handles Linux OS boot requests, if you have an EFI system with Secure Boot enabled it may not allow this.

The recommendation from the MVP community is to always perform any Recovery (or Cloning) using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media so that you start completely outside of any involvement by Windows, Security software etc.

The standard Rescue Media is also Linux OS based, so if this does not boot on your system, trying this from within Windows would also not work!

There is also the option to create Windows PE Rescue media should the standard media not work but let's cross that bridge if we come to it.
