Recovering old data from .tib files failed

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a backed up data from 2015 on my external hard rive.

I used to be able to double click on the .tib files and see the content of the .tib `folders`, but not anymore. (windows 8)

Now I downloaded the free trial version of ATI and I chosen the TrueImages.exe as the default program to open the .tib

When I try to mount the image I keep getting the following error message `Specified Archive cannot be mounted since it contains no partitions.`

If I double click the .tib then the Acronics program opens up and if I choose the recovery option I can only see the C: and the D:  but not the G: which is where are the .tib folders.

I already installed the tib_mounter_setup_ , but I still don`t have the luck to access to my old files.

Please could you tell me what should be the default program assigned to see the content of the .tib folders by double clicking on them

or If any other method I could possible asses to my old files.

thank you very much for your help.

Roland,

The default app to open .tib files is Windows Explorer.  It would appear that file association for Explorer and .tib files has been lost.  Right click on a .tib file and selelct Open With, select More apps, and select Windows Explorer.  Should fix the problem.

Roland, welcome to these user forums.

If you are seeing the message that the archive cannot be mounted because it contains no partitions, then this is because you are trying to mount a Files & Folders backup .TIB archive file.  Mounting can only be done for Disks & Partitions or Entire PC backup types.

That aside, you should be able to double-click in Windows Explorer on any .TIB file and explore the contents if ATIH 2017 has been installed correctly and has been integrated for the shell extensions that give this function.

If you cannot do a double-click, then I would recommend doing a Repair install by running the ATIH 2017 full installer as Administrator (and from an Administrator account) ove the top of your current installation.  This should correct any issues with shell integration.

Note: there is no need to set TrueImage.exe as the default file handler for .TIB files as you say you have done!

Roland, your .TIB files should not be associated directly with Acronis True Image when viewed in the file Properties window from explorer - but the correct file associations are set by the installation process.

I would recommend doing a clean install of ATIH 2017 as follows:

First, uninstall ATIH 2017 using the Windows > Control Panel > Programs & Features option.

Second, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature).  Run the Cleanup Tool as Administrator then restart the computer to complete the action.

Third, reinstall ATIH 2017.  You should do this using an Administrator level account to have the required privileges.

Note: using the Cleanup Tool will remove all backup configuration / tasks and task history.

Steve!

Thank you very much for your help and for your patience! I followed your step by step instructions.

Now, I don`t have the ATI assigned to open the .tib. but I keep getting an another error message this time.

`This file does not have a program associated with if for performing this action....`

Could you give me an advice how and where to go from this point?

Thank you again!

Roland

Roland, take a look at KB 2294: Disabling Windows Shell Extensions of Acronis True Image which has details of how to remove the shell extension, but which will give you an idea of how the shell extensions should look if these have been configured correctly on your system. Note: the KB document is for the older 2011 version.

Nirsoft's ShellExView v1.97 - Shell Extensions Manager can show you what shell extensions you actually have on your system, where you should see 5 such extensions from Acronis for the tishell64.dll component.
See AcronisShellExtns.txt for the same 5 extensions for my computer.

If you have done a Clean Install of ATIH 2017 and do not have these shell extensions already in place, then I would suspect that you have some security software which is preventing the correct Windows Registry entries from being created when the Acronis installer is run.  There should be no need to have to manually create these entries.

Hi Steve! Thank you again! It looks like you find the culprit for this problem.

I checked the the Shell Extensions and in the file extensions the `.tib` is not included.

Please could you point me to the right direction?
