Recovery from smaller hard drive to bigger hard drive

Thread needs solution

I have a backup of a 125gb windows installation.

I want to recover that backup to a 256gb empty hard drive, but the recovred system fills only 125gb of space.

If i look at the partitions i see that the windows recovery parition is aligned after the windows parition, maybe thats the problem?

To fix this i need to boot into ubuntu and move the recovery partition and resize the windows partition.

Is there a different solution?

Stefan, welcome to these User Forums.

You can obviously use a Linux program such as Gparted to make the changed needed, or alternatively I would use the free MiniTool Partition Wizard to move the Recovery partition to the end of the free space then expand the other partitions as needed.

I have use MiniTool Partition Wizard on several occasions when recovering to a larger disk. It is very easy to do.

I tested my scenario with Acronis 2014 and it with that it fills the full disk space (256gb), so unallocated disk space.

Was this feature removed in Acronis 2017?

Stefan, I am not aware of this being removed in ATI 2017 or other versions?  I would suggest submitting Feedback to Acronis using the tool provided for this in the GUI so that they can also investigate.  Provide them with a link to this forum topic.
