Restore button gone and can't find versions

Thread needs solution

Hi

I've been doing incremental local backups.  I tried to use the restore button and it came back with could not find version errors.  I contacted support and they said that the backups must have been deleted and to start a new backup chain.  I created an new subdirectory on the backup drive.  Deleted the backup jobs from the side menu, but I did not delete the files.  I created a new backup job saving to the new subdirectory.  After I backed up I tried the restore button and it came up with the same cannot find version error.  I answered ignore the the error box about a hundred times.  When I said ignore to version one it let me browse the backup.   I closed and restarted acronis and the restore button went away.  I don't understand why it was looking for a old backups when I started a new chain.  I read a bit in the forums and saw that the there is a database file that may get corrupted.  My current plan is to get a new external drive.  Rename the database file, if I can find it.  Create a new incremental backup job going to the new hard disk.  Hopefully this will let me start fresh.  Should this work or am I missing something?  Thanks for any help in advance.

Craig, welcome to these user forums.

It does sound like you have an issue with the Acronis Database information stored on your computer, and this can be caused by deleting backup files manually outside of using the automatic cleanup options provided in the application settings.

Another cause can be if you swap between different backup drives regardless of whether these may have been give the same drive letter - this is because each drive has a unique drive identifier (UUID) which is recorded for the task in the database.

If you do delete any backup files in Windows Explorer then you should always run a Validation for the backup task that created those deleted files, as this will attempt to reconcile the Database information against the new status of backup files on your drive.  Validation will present a pop-up error message for each such deleted file that you would then need to take the 'Ignore' option for until the process completes.

If you want to make a clean start, then you can delete or rename the database folder but in order to do this, you must first stop all Acronis Services and then end all Acronis programs in order to release any locks held by active Acronis processes.

The folder is located at C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database where this may be set as a hidden system folder path, so you may need to change the Explorer view options to show hidden files & folders.  Once you have renamed or deleted the Database folder, then just launch the main Acronis application and this will restart the services and programs plus will create a new Database folder.  You will lose any history information for your backup tasks but this will be rebuild again as you run your backup tasks.

Thank you for answering.  My online backups seem to be fine.  Would deleting the database cause a problem with them?

Craig, your online backups should be fine as information for these are stored online in the Dashboard and other information is stored in a separate folder (OnlineBackup).

Thank you for your input.  I started anew and validated the new backup and everything seems to be fine.

Craig, thanks for the feedback, hope all stays looking good for you.
