Restore with new partitions

Thread needs solution

Partition C (OS) is too small, partition D has enough space.

How can I restore a complete backup of C and D after having changed the partitions?

Gerhard, we would need to know more information about your current disk drive and partitions, screen shots from Windows Disk Management would be helpful, and to know what exactly you are wanting to achieve here?

If what you want to do is to take some space from your D: partition and give this to your C: partition, then this can be done without needing to do a full restore of both partitions provided you take sufficient precautions when doing this.

The steps I would take would be:

  1. Download and install a Partition Manager program such as the free MiniTool Partition Wizard
  2. Make a full Disk & Partitions backup of your full disk drive as a precaution against any problems arising.
  3. Use the Partition tool to resize your D: partition to make this smaller, then move the D: partition to put the free (unallocated) disk space next to the C: partition.
  4. Resize the C: partition to expand this into the unallocated space.
Note: these actions will most likely require the computer to be rebooted to perform them.

Minitool partion wizard free is great for paritioning - definitely backup to be on the safe side though (just in case).

You can simply right click on C: parition and select the option to "extend".  Doing so will ask you where to grab the extra space from and will pick the best parition to borrow from by default.

Thank you Steve,

Partition Wizard has done the job perfectly, reorganizing partition D and then enlarging C.
