Restore to Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook problem
My wife's notebook lost its WiFi connection, never happened before, I have subsequently discovered that MalwareBytes was to blame but before I discovered that I tried to restore an image to the notebook. The first image shows what I was trying to restore, I ticked everything, the second image shows the warning I received, apart from suspending conjugal rights it would also cost a fortune to put it right so I cancelled the restore. I also attach the Bios Boot Priority, if that sheds any light on my problem. I am very reluctant to play with the Boot Priority in case it went wrong, for both of the above reasons.
The image is on a Toshiba external 200GB drive and the recovery disc is on a Samsung external CD/DVD drive.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you Steve for your contribution. I read the article you gave a link to, to be honest, it is too arcane for me. My wife's notebook doesn't have much on it so I shall settle for reloading Windows and the few programmes she has on there. My apologies for troubling you. If it was my notebook I would fiddle with it just like I do with my desktop.

Peter

Peter, understand your point of view, but would suggest taking at least the opportunity to check how to boot the Rescue Media in both modes on that notebook.
When you get to the boot selection choices, you should be seeing two options for the USB stick with the Rescue Media, one of which should show either UEFI or EFI in the name. That really is the key to this issue - choosing the correct boot mode to match how your Windows OS uses. Another option is to ensure that the BIOS settings are set for UEFI only and not have Legacy / CSM enabled, then the USB Rescue Media can only use the correct boot mode.

Thank you Steve for your trouble. I shall give it another try. The two choices I have when making rescue media are: Acronis Bootable Rescue Media and WinPE based media with Acronis plugin (see attach1), the first choice does not take in to account the UEFI requirement so I chose the second one, this required me to download Windows ADK which I did and after installing I was offered multiple choices for installation (see attach 2 and 3). In desperation I downloaded and installed Macrium Reflect which automatically picked up the the notebook was UEFI and downloaded accordingly. As I have paid for TI 2017 it would be nice if I could get it to work.
Regards,
Peter

Steve, today I downloaded and burnt to a USB Flash Drive the 'AcronisTrueImage2017.ISO file. I then went through the stages of restoring an image, I got all the way through until the 'Proceed' came up, I had no warning at all, it appears that it would have restored successfully. I attach 'recoverywizard1.jpg' do I need to recover Disc2? I also attach 'destination2.jpg' If I do need to recover Disk2 is that the correct destination? Is the .ISO file different to the rescue procedure from within the programme? Oh Dear, what was wrong with the previous forum format?

Peter, sorry but can't see any of the images you were to attach and with the new forum software you will need to embed these inline with your post by clicking on the icon at the right end of the top row in the editor panel, then upload the images before then selecting them to embed.
See post: [Tutorial] How to recover an entire disk backup which has a step by step guide to doing a full disk restore which may answer your question.

Peter, how many disks are in the notebook, and how many disks were included in the backup image that you are wanting to restore from?
I prefer to take the keep it simple approach and keep my backups to a single disk each time to avoid this type of issue.
From your screen images, it looks like Disk 1 is your main OS boot drive, so not clear what you have stored on the small SSD drive?

Thank you Steve. I have never done anything to the SSD drive, it is a Samsung addition. As far as I am aware there is only one drive in the notebook and has been partitioned by Samsung. Are you suggesting that I only image the OS drive? I attach the disc config, I think it is only one partitioned drive.

In reply to Peter, how many disks are in… by truwrikodrorow…

Are you suggesting that I only image the OS drive? I attach discconfig, it appears to my untutored eye that Disk 0 is my OS drive. Lord knows why there are so many partitions, I have never partitioned the drive.

Peter, looking at the disk management image, it looks as if the SSD is functioning as a cache to help speed up the operation of the system, so this may be one of the older hybrid drives with a small SSD card coupled with the larger HDD spinning disk, but recognised as 2 separate drives by the OS even though it is the 1 physical drive enclosure.
The partitions on the SSD do not show as having any drive letters, and from your earlier screen shot, no details of any used data, just the two 'special' FS partitions.
