Restored drive but not booting

Thread needs solution

Hi: small crisis here. Using Acronis boot USB, I created a fresh full backup with ATI 2017 in preparation to moving to an SSD (even though Steve's directions said to do it, I failed to do a chkdsk /f /r...). After the backup I tried a direct clone to the SSD. Got an error message (which I've forgotten...) so canceled and tried to reboot from original HDD. Wouldn't boot. So tried restore from the most recent full backup of an automatic one from last week. Still no boot but, when I look at the drive after the last restore, all my C drive files are there and viewable  from the Acronis boot USB Browse so the problem seems to be it doesn't find the boot sector?? Can that be restored seperately somehow?

Here's the files I restored from my earlier backup (I checked all for the restore):

Here's the boot failure message I'm getting:

At the moment, I'm trying that earlier restore direct to the SSD. I'll put that in and hope it works but, needless to say, I could really use some advice here.

Thanks!

George

UPDATE: OK, I seem to have solved it but am not really sure why. I went into BIOS and just did a restore defaults, rebooted and everything's good (well, except the backup is a week old, but not a huge problem...). The only difference was I got the windows splash screen instead of the Dell, which usually shows first.

The real question is what I did wrong with either the backup or restore? It seemed like the boot MBR was missing yet why would that change by just restoring BIOS default settings? The only settings I changed was the boot order to boot first from USB. Note that the partitions being restored in the photo on previous post didn't show an MBR. Should it? Is there some setting I didn't do when setting up the backup that I should check?

I've now created a backup restore to the SSD which showed as successful. Next step will be to put that in and hope it works -- which was the original reason for this bungathon.... .

thanks again,

George

"Note that the partitions being restored in the photo on previous post didn't show an MBR." That could be covered by the "track aero". My recollection that there should be a checkbox for 'disk signature' but that may only happen when restoring to new drive.
