Restoring using bootable CD.. no license... will it work?

I just backed up my PC that is running Linux using Acronis True Image.  I just downloaded the ISO from the Acronis website.  I didn't pay anything.  When booting off a bootable CD, there would be no way for them to know if I just paid for a license, unless they have one ISO for trials and one for paid customers.  I'm wondering if when I go to restore, it will then tell me I must pay for a new CD with that option.  I don't feel like trying to restore because if it doesn't work, I'll have days of work ahead of me.  When my PC messes up, I'll give it a try.  I have everything documented so I should be able to do it without it.  But, what's the point on paying for Ture Image if I can download the ISO and boot off it and use it without paying?

David, welcome to these user forums.

The version of the CD / ISO file that you have downloaded is a Trial version, this will work normally for 30 days assuming that you install the main ATIH application, otherwise you will be subject to the limitations of the Trial version which are documented in the following KB document: 2768: Trial Version Limitations of Acronis Products which shows the following limitations for the Rescue Media (boot CD / ISO).  See screen shot.

If you are allowed to use the full application functionality for the Boot CD then this would suggest that you have a valid Acronis account and have downloaded a valid ISO file for the full product, not the Trial product.

The trial CD will actually keep on working forever.  However, when you boot it and check the version, you'll see "trial" in the version - if not, you have a full version - what does the version say in yours?

The trial .iso can restore already created backup images, but can't make any backup images... it will let you step all the way to the point of pressing OK to start it and then say you can't because it's a trial.

The trial in Windows will only work 30 days and then won't work at all.  The trial in Windows also doesn't let you create Universal restore and the trial .iso doesn't have universal restore included.  

My iso image says Acronis True Image 2017.  But, I booted from it and created an image to my external hard drive... so your comment above stating that I should be able to go through all the steps but stop me from creating the actual image didn't apply for me.

If it doesn't say trial, then it's the full version. Good for you. I'd suspect you do fave a license, but if not, good for you. You ended up with a fully working version somehow.

ive downloaded the iso, it says trial in it and doesn't let me backup. What link did you use to download yours? Well put it to the test.

I'm re-grabbing the current tria iso of the standard and NG version now and will test both...

A few years ago, I implemented and acronis snap deploy server that I deployed images via a pxe server.  I wonder if somehow they got my old work and my personal email mixed up.  But still, that was snap deploy and this is True Image.  I think when I downloaded it, it didn't have an account for me.  I had to sign up for a new account.  

David, thanks for letting us know about this issue, I have raised this directly with Acronis Customer Central under case number 02924695 and they are now investigating it.

I was able to test this myself, as was Rob (Bobbo) also, so this was nothing to do with your old account etc.

So, I updated my pc and rebooted and my pc failed to boot.  So, I gave my Acronis image a try.  Took a few hours and restored the image and worked great.  Saved me days of rebuilding my PC.

Glad to hear it!  That's the plan we all hope to achieve with our disk backups and always nice to hear of the success stories in the forums.  Acronis has been very good for me too.
