sign in does not offer an option to activate without using "cloud" back up

Thread needs solution

it looks like I can use Acronis but, not everyone want to use "cloud" back up

the installation of Acronis True Image, 2017

an older version but new for me

gives no option to proceed without signing in and activating cloud...

how do I tell acronis I don't want to back up to the cloud?

I suggest you look at the following knowledge base document: 58546: Acronis True Image 2017: Activating Full Version which explains the activation process.

Hope this helps

Ian

the things acronis doesn't tell you

I've recommended it to two friends who don't have internet for their home computers

am I reading correctly here that they can pay for the disc but can only use it for 30 days if they don't activate it online?

I'd say, since software isn't generally refundable, that's some fine print

and then it says, you can activate it?

and, would have been easier it the instructions had told me to uninstall my previous version

oddly, software customer support was a lot more effective in earlier days

""To use Acronis True Image, you need to activate it via the Internet. Without activation the fully functional product works for 30 days. If you do not activate it during that period, all the program functions become unavailable except the recovery.

You can activate Acronis True Image either on your computer or from another computer, if your computer is not connected to the Internet.""

the wording made it sound as if I were going to be shared to the cloud, if I wanted to or not

Cerise, just to clarify here, you do not need to sign in and use the Acronis Cloud for any perpetual licensed version of ATI - you should have a license serial number that can be used instead of signing in with your Acronis account credentials.

Activation is a separate issue and if there is no internet connection then you need to follow the procedure for offline activation to ensure that the installed ATI is not treated as being a Trial version.  KB 58546 gives all the information needed for offline activation but again, the key requirement is that you need another PC with an internet connection to complete this process though this does not have to be the one where you have installed ATI 2017.

thank   you

a shame it isn't more clear for the user who isn't highly skilled

realizing when I first used acronis a MVP family member sat with me, set it up and showed me how to do what I needed...

he probably would have known how to navigate the set up, not much help for someone who is not as skilled
