Status on implementing a Pause?

Thread needs solution

Using ATI 2017, latest build as of 7/6/2017, my laptops normally backup to a NAS when they're on my home LAN. When the laptops are away from home, I get bombarded with notifications of "backup failure" (duh). I was on chat with technical support and they did not admit that there is no pause ability. In fact, you can not change any backup settings (such as "Do not schedule") unless ATI has access (apparently) to the destination.

I've read the first 25 or so postings using the search keyword pause, but nothing mentions a fix for this other than disabling ATI on reboot. I echo the frustration of many other users who are accustomed to other backup software that have included this for decades.  I've used ATI on/off since 2007 but am now convinced I must switch to another product, because, if this kind of basic feature is missing, what else is not implemented?

Oh, and before anyone else mentions it... Yes, I can click "Back up now", which then shows a "Stop" button... but clicking that only stops the backup for about 4-5 minutes before it reschedules and tries the backup again. My backup profile has dozens of includes/excludes that I don't feel like rewriting every time I want to take the laptop off the LAN.

Robert, this is a bit of an old chestnut and there are ways around it which you can use.

Within the settings for your backup task to the NAS, on the Advanced page you simply need to use the Pre-Command option to do this.

Create a simple text file on your NAS and save this as something like Test.BAT

Inside the Test.BAT file, just write the following line:

Echo off

In your Task Pre-Command, click on Use custom commands then on the Edit button and put in path to the test.bat file on your NAS then click on the option to Test command to ensure that the command is entered correctly.

This simple test will only work when you are connected on your local network and will fail when away from home.

See example from my own computer below.

The other area where you should probably make changes in for the Options > Advanced > Error handling settings.

There are what cause your backup task to keep retrying when it can't contact the NAS and nag you with lots of error messages etc.

I personally turn these error handling settings off!
