Thoughts on Acronis True Image 2021 and Combinations of Backup Types

Thread needs solution

I'm looking to accomplish a backup scheme such as:

SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS ...
FDIIIII DIIIIII DIIIIII DIIIIII FDIIIII ...

Then, being able to delete the full/differential/incremental groups over time, such as:

SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS SMTWTFS ...
F------ ------- ------- DIIIIII FDIIIII DIIIIII DIIIIII DIIIIII ...

Something like this would allow for keeping backups back a few months without the excessive storage requirement. I have 4 TB to keep at least a month of backups.

Thanks.

With ATI you cannot mix differential and incremental backups in the one backup task (which it looks like you are trying to do). You probably will need two backup tasks, which may require much more space. As far as I can work out, with ATI 2020 and 2021 it is not possible to delete incremental backups (other than in the current chain) while retaining the full backup. I have a dim recollection that it is possible to delete differential backups. You can only manage backups that use the *.tibx using the ATI GUI; you cannot delete files using Explorer.

Acronis Cyber Backup (aka Acronis Backup 12.5), if I recall correctly, allows one task to include both incremental and differential backups.

Hello tcbeaton,

added your topic as a vote for the existing feature request TI-95638 Add GFS (Grandfather-Father-Son) backup scheme to Acronis True Image, however the chances of implementation are very low since the scheme is mostly intended for covering the business use-cases.
